So I ran into someone today while sitting a soft 8/16 O8 who asked me to come with him on a smoke break. I don't smoke but was curious why he would want to talk to me so i followed. We got outside and he asked me if I had ever considered working with a partner in the O8 games.

I told him that I wasn't a cheat and to leave me the hell alone.

I went back to the table gathered my chips and cashed out.

Once I got home I started thinking of how often this may be happening....and is it really cheating?

Like if i'm giving signals to my partner to check or raise...anyone who is paying enough attention could catch on and use it against us. But if we were somehow communication our cards to one another that would be very unfair....

I dunno the more i think about it...the more i have mixed feelings. What do you guys think about it?

Yes it is cheating. You should have reported him to the floorman.

Mixed feelings?!?

About what, the lost opportunity to make a profit by cheating?

"I don't know sir, I sort of have mixed about taking this bribe to cover up your illegal activity. Let me think about it, I mean it is easy money and all that. I just really have mixed feelings."

i feel very strongly about it. but think about it. you could squeeze the table for maybe an extra $16/hr. 40 years of that and you can retire.

David Sklansky once pointed out to me that most online colluders wouldnt have a clue how to actually profit from the collusion, other than the minor advantage of being able to adjust outs for a couple of more known cards . That was wrt to holdem, though, and for O8 there is the added ability to whipsaw a marginal high and get him to fold, or to quarter the nut low when the partners have the nuts in both directions.

Obviously you should have reported the attempt though. By ignoring it youve left other players open to the cheating. I doubt they would take at seriously as counting in 21 and report it to all the casinos, but it might at least result in a ban from that one.

There was a vegas trip report on here a month or so ago about two colluders at an omaha game. It worked out very well for them unfortunately. The guy didn't realize what was going on until after they left.
