This is not gonna be the typical post of a player crying about money lost on bad beats and crazy players. This will be a post about what not to do at poker and how I feel is the best way to deal with a situation like mine.I started playing poker about 8 years ago. Home games mostly. It is easy to say that I have won and lost my share of cash at poker. About 18 months ago I started to get more serious about my play. I started reading books (super system, sklansky, Caro, Hellmuth). I have a few forums that I check out daily, the regular stuff for any devoted player. It all paid off for the most part. I made a good run at low limit games on the net for about 4k in 5 months. I took a little hit in November for 1k and decided to regroup . I stopped playing as much and took a little break. In February I got back into the game online and made that 1k back + $400. Now I took a decision,"stop online poker for the summer, spend time with your family and begin again in the fall"Today I bought in for $100 . LOL I lost that really quickly and hated every second of it. Then a light went on, and I said to myself "this is not for me". And thats it (i hope). From now on all my $ play will be live and online will only be for freerolls or fun. I think in order for me to be good at it I must at least have fun doing it, and I don't feel the "fun" anymore. I'm playing terribly, I'm bored, and I feel like I'm playing a slot machine. So I see it as a lesson learned and I guess if I don't want to be turned off the game totally, I'll stick to live play because that is where I feel I play best.My point is ( I guess I should get to it already), be careful of online play, it is easy, it is verrry accessable, and it could be quite dangerous. I found myself "gambling " way too much . I was lucky , and could afford to lose a few bux here and there. Don't get cought in the "web", play because you like it, can afford it, and it is healthy, play because you "need" to win , it is a sickness. For those of you who were patient enough to read through the whole post, thanx for your input , I know I will be "flamed" but its ok because it is good for me to get this out.See you all at the tables (real one's) As for online, see you all in the freerollsThanks, cheersJay

No flames here. Enjoy the live games. Some people just can't adapt to the online play. Keep us updated on your live game progress. :D

Thanks for sharing - I think that you made the right decision based on your post. For me, online poker is really the only method that makes sense as I typically only play when the kids are in bed or otherwise occupied with something else. So, I'm your opposite as I almost never play live except for the annual jaunt up to Reno or Tahoe.:-)Good Luck and keep us posted!

Why flame someone for being honest and making the best descision for them. Save that for people that wear glasses at the table. (lol.. I do, wear glasses that is.. not flame those who do. I don't feel the need to act kool to tell myself I'm a good player by flaming others).I play a lot of online poker, and for me it really sharpens my live playing skills. Just wish I could get more live games going around here and not wait to be near a casino to play. :D (possibly the shooting star in great big Menoman(sp?) MN this summer)I play mostly play money games, but high stakes where you don't have as many suckouts (but they still exist). Before a live tourney I find out who's in it, their skill level, etc and if it's mostly newbies, I play mostly the lower buy in tourneys for a while. That way I can get used to the suckouts, Ace Chasers and the like. :) But online now they're not chasing Aces as much as 2 pair. That really sucks when they hit that on the river after you've protected your high pair. :D But it is part of the game I guess.I wish the phrase "any two cards can win" wasn't the motto of 80% of the suckouts today.. lolAnyhow, good luck!

Def some good points. Way to many people that play limit poker get caught up in the grind of it and forget to have fun. Gl in the future playing online or in person.
