T2p Good Enough On The Bubble?

Recommended Posts

HUD isn't working these days (actually, Stars isn't saving my HH's) so no stats on villain. The hand before this he knocked a shorter stack out after open raising 7BB and calling the push-reraise w/ TT. Micro stakes STT.PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t30 (4 handed) Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)Hero (t3535)BB (t2585)UTG (t6080)Button (t1300)Preflop: Hero is SB with 9club.gif, Tdiamond.gif. 1 fold, Button calls t30, Hero completes, BB checks.Flop: (t90) 3spade.gif, 5heart.gif, Tspade.gif(3 players)Hero checks, BB bets t30, Button calls t30, Hero calls t30.Turn: (t180) 9heart.gif(3 players)Hero checks, BB bets t150, Button calls t150, Hero raises to t450, BB raises to t2525Does this just stink of a set? I'm in good shape with my stack on the bubble and calling and losing puts me down to about 1000 chips.

Definite fold. It may be a ballsy semi-bluff but with a 1300 stack out there you need to turtle this one.Re your Stars HH problem...is Stars not saving them or is PT spitting out errors? If the latter there was an update to PT2 a while ago to fix that problem.

I'm using the Realtime HUD and the problem seems to be on Stars' end. The HH's just stopped saving on my computer a few days ago. I've checked and re-checked the settings, changed folders, everything I can think of. Just can't get HH's to save anywhere. I've just emailed support.

Fold. And btw, it's the latest stars update that's giving you the problems, assuming you use Vista. The latest update deselected "Run Programs As Administrator", so it won't save any HH not run as admin. Right Click on the shortcut, properties, re-select run as admin. If you don't use Vista, I have nothing for you.

I do use Vista so that sounds promising. Let's see what happens...Nothing yet but maybe I have to restart Stars for it to work.

if you're folding to a shove check raising the turn is beyond awful. just lead the turn and be willing to get it in against the BB. he shows up with worse 2 pair, combo draws, and worse tens like always. i'd be more cautious if the button were one giving all the action since dumb people limp hands like 33 and 55 no matter their position a lot.

I figured if I led that turn the strength of my hand would become very obvious, so I opted for the check-raise. In hindsight I probably should have raised bigger but I honestly thought I would take it down there. I did not expect BB to come over the top like that.

I think BB might very well be raising with air or a T with a paint kicker and a flush draw. I'm really dubious about reading a set into his action. The pre flop limp and the min betting faggotry on the flop tell me he's weak. If he's got a set, why not min raise the flop? Please raise the flop next time? You'll get better information, I think.

On the contrary I think the PF limp and flop minlead are perfectly consistent with a set here. This is a micro stakes STT so people don't often raise with small-med PPs in his spot PF, and the minlead on the flop could easily be an attempt to build the pot against the two blinds who are likely to fold to any real bet on this flop.

I can't get away from this. He shows up with all kinds of top pair or worse 2 pair here a lot. If you could quickly sharkscope him and he's a very decent winner I think it gets closer, but at the micros, without a read, I don't think we can weight his range to just sets. Getting 1.75:1, I think we have to call this. Even if we are up against a set and we somehow manage not to suck out, having 1k chips here isn't too terrible.

No, having 1000 chips at 15/30 isn't terrible but going from 3500 to 1000 on the bubble when there is someone else sitting at 1300 is terrible. I wonder if some of you are downplaying the bubble aspect of this hand. Yes, he could show up with worse 2P or TP but is it really worth it to find out when I'm already in pretty good shape to cash?

You definitely have to call here... Villain was in the BB and could easily have a worse two pair, and not a set. Plus this is micro-stakes, so he could be making a bad play with top pair, some kind of draw, or worse. Your hand is way too good to fold... play for the win and call for sure! If he has you beat, it's a cooler - it happens.

I would call here.Like others have said, I think your most probably up against a worse 2 pair, complete bluff or flush draw. His flop bet is weak and I personally would of raised the flop for info.M of 20 (EM of 9) if you lose is not bad!

From this post and others it appears hero has SCARED problems playing on the bubble. If getting into the money has priority over finishing in 1st or 2nd I would suggest folding into the money and avoid playing the bubble altogether. Of course this carries the risk of getting into the money as the short stack or even getting blinded off depending on how big the starting stack once the bubble begins but no more tuf decisions. For me, busting out on the bubble is never a concern - it's stealing and stack building time (keep in mind I don't often play SST - usually 3TT and larger and lately mostly live tourneys). If I bust - so be it, I wasn't playing for bottom rung money anyway. I have another reason to get aggressive on the bubble, table image! I want the rest of the table to know I'm playing to win and that their stack is at risk playing against me - this makes stealing easier as well as reads on hands. If hero is playing scared on the bubble and others are picking up on it, he's going to get a lot more action forcing him into a lot of tuf decisons. Playing back isn't so bad - sometimes you bust out on the bubble but other times you get ITM with a big stack, a fearsome table image and a better shot at the big money.

dont play a lot of STTs until you understand that this is totally wrong. Busting out on the bubble is your biggest concern in an STT because there is no "big money".

Well like I said I seldom play SST and for the last year or so they've been mostly private home games - which I've cleaned up with pretty regular. They usualy pay 50/30/20 and while 50% may not be big money it's still a lot better than 20%. And while this is just my opinion, most of my wins came on the bubble where I established a big lead in stack size and got the rest of the table playing tight - read scared! After the bubble the shorty is so anxious to play back at me he usually throws his stack into the middle with just about anything but by this time I've switched gears again and slowed down a bit or more.If I read your comments correctly, the 'right' way to play STT sets up a prime table for a thief (LA) on the bubble.

I obv dont know the quality of your home game players, but if you play anything above a $10 buyin online you will bleed chips trying to steal from UTG with hands that cannot possibly have implied odds. (This may be combining the two threads.)

jm, how can you reconcile completing from the SB with T9 here on the bubble when you advocate folding 86s in the thread from a few days back getting 9:1. Please be consistent if you're going to be nitty from the SB. Fold this preflop, and don't end up in this situation.

Stealing from UTG does apply to the other thread but there it was only a 4 handed table thereby putting UTG only one off the blinds - i.e in LP as well as first to act - again IMO. I also qualified the steal from UTG IF the table was playing obviously tight and letting the steals happen. Most of the SnGs I play on line are $10, $20 and $30 buy-in with 27-45 players and I do alright playing this way. I didn't invent them but have developed my strategies from numerous authors including Daniel N and forums like this one. Stealing from UTG is not a common play in my game but I dust it off occationally if given the right table dymanics. Here I'm not playing the cards but rather the players and it works surprisingly well, often, and profitably if applied correctly. The times I get into trouble or go bust on the bubble are usually playing legit and quality hands and not from steal attempts which I can easily abandon if given action.I think my main points got lost in the posts following it and that was "If hero is playing scared on the bubble and others are picking up on it, he's going to get a lot more action forcing him into a lot of tuf decisons" and " If getting into the money has priority over finishing in 1st or 2nd I would suggest folding into the money and avoid playing the bubble altogether." My stealing and loose-aggressive comments were simply to illustrate the opportunities given on the bubble and that playing scared or just to get ITM can be exployed by a LA. If top 2 pair are going to play scared to a possible set, I think my points are very well made!

Very easily:1) I have 3500 chips at 15/30 while the poster in that thread had about 10002) I only have 3 opponents here so hitting anything w/ T9o stands a much better chance of being the best hand on the flop, which is not the case playing 86s at a full table

Aces, the play-to-win versus play-to-cash debate goes way back and when it comes to STTs I believe the general consensus is that the smartest way to play them is to play to cash. Once you make the money you can then turn things up a notch (or two). There is a huge difference between folding this hand in this spot and "playing scared" on the bubble. Playing scared is turtling and folding everything but premium hands because you don't want to bust out. That's very different from playing cautiously and not wanting to cripple a stack that has a good chance of carrying you into the money. Oh, and traditional aggressive bubble stealing isn't nearly as effective at the micro stakes because people don't understand things like the impact of the bubble and the gap concept.
