I don't think they could buy him out before July 1st. Anyway, he still has an opportunity to sign with a team. He'll probably end up in Los Angeles so they can get up to the cap floor.

How come? Would it count as buying out a 2nd year or something?Even if he signs with LA, or anyone else, he will get a lot less than he would have when teams were going crazy on July 1st.

I thought I read somewhere that they couldn't buy him out. Maybe it was a dream.I've been looking around and it seems they could have bought him out before the June 30th deadline. He was scheduled to be paid $4.15 million in the final year of his contract but he would be bought out at 2/3rds that meaning a two-year cap hit of $1.38 million per year.I guess the Bruins were hoping some team would be willing to trade for him or they would somehow be able to afford to keep him for his veteran leadership. Regardless, I don't think Murray would have been one of those guys scooped up in the July 1st frenzy.

they could have, but were hoping a team looking for a scorer on July 1st that missed out on the free agent frenzy would take a flyer on him. They were allowed to buy him out so late because they had a player, Dennis Wideman, that had arbitration scheduled. Murray was not getting big money regardless, he will likely get the same type of deal now he would have gotten on July 1st. Don't feel bad for Glen, he'll be OK.

I could see LA, or maybe even Toronto, Atlanta or for those appreciative of replays....San Jose. Line him up with Joe T. again, see if the old chemistry still works.

very doubtful considering that Ryan Clowe is still not signed and the amount of cap room they have left. even if they dump McLaren, they really probably want that space to get clowe and if there's anything left over to sign a depth dman
