atlpinkpony 0
I am not a very good NL player as proven by these 2 HH's. 1st hand - Do I need to bet more on flop to discourage a call? Was the turn bet the right move? I put him on a flush draw or a-K. 2nd hand - Probably tilting now in new game. Should I have reraised pf to see where I'm at? Even if he shoves, I probably have hard time laying down. Advice needed because I have some major leaks that I need to fill.PokerStars Game #19028370863: Hold'em No Limit ($0.25/$0.50) - 2008/07/22 - 22:12:56 (ET)Table 'Agelaos II' 6-max Seat #2 is the buttonSeat 1: wurm ($53.75 in chips) Seat 2: lucky lindy2 ($65.25 in chips) Seat 4: killastrass ($65.25 in chips) Seat 5: atlpinkpony ($49.25 in chips) Seat 6: pdope ($70.55 in chips) killastrass: posts small blind $0.25atlpinkpony: posts big blind $0.50*** HOLE CARDS ***Dealt to atlpinkpony [3s 3d]pdope: folds wurm: folds lucky lindy2: raises $1.50 to $2killastrass: folds atlpinkpony: calls $1.50*** FLOP *** [Qh 3h Kh]atlpinkpony: checks lucky lindy2: bets $3atlpinkpony: raises $6 to $9lucky lindy2: calls $6*** TURN *** [Qh 3h Kh] [Ts]atlpinkpony: bets $38.25 and is all-inlucky lindy2: calls $38.25*** RIVER *** [Qh 3h Kh Ts] [5d]*** SHOW DOWN ***atlpinkpony: shows [3s 3d] (three of a kind, Threes)lucky lindy2: shows [Jh Ad] (a straight, Ten to Ace)lucky lindy2 collected $96.75 from pot*** SUMMARY ***Total pot $98.75 | Rake $2 Board [Qh 3h Kh Ts 5d]Seat 1: wurm folded before Flop (didn't bet)Seat 2: lucky lindy2 (button) showed [Jh Ad] and won ($96.75) with a straight, Ten to AceSeat 4: killastrass (small blind) folded before FlopSeat 5: atlpinkpony (big blind) showed [3s 3d] and lost with three of a kind, ThreesSeat 6: pdope folded before Flop (didn't bet) 2nd handPokerStars Game #19029207376: Hold'em No Limit ($0.25/$0.50) - 2008/07/22 - 22:48:33 (ET)Table 'Loreley IV' 6-max Seat #1 is the buttonSeat 1: johne77 ($13.15 in chips) Seat 2: atlpinkpony ($44.40 in chips) Seat 3: worldrecord1 ($16.05 in chips) Seat 4: TyPe_SH ($31.10 in chips) Seat 5: temberin ($52.50 in chips) Seat 6: blitztwn36 ($88.75 in chips) atlpinkpony: posts small blind $0.25worldrecord1: posts big blind $0.50*** HOLE CARDS ***Dealt to atlpinkpony [Kd Ks]TyPe_SH: folds temberin: folds blitztwn36: raises $1.50 to $2johne77: folds atlpinkpony: calls $1.75worldrecord1: folds *** FLOP *** [9h Th 2d]atlpinkpony: bets $2.50blitztwn36: raises $5.50 to $8atlpinkpony: raises $34.40 to $42.40 and is all-inblitztwn36: calls $34.40*** TURN *** [9h Th 2d] [7h]*** RIVER *** [9h Th 2d 7h] [5h]*** SHOW DOWN ***atlpinkpony: shows [Kd Ks] (a pair of Kings)blitztwn36: shows [Ac Ah] (a flush, Ace high)blitztwn36 collected $86.30 from pot*** SUMMARY ***Total pot $89.30 | Rake $3 Board [9h Th 2d 7h 5h]Seat 1: johne77 (button) folded before Flop (didn't bet)Seat 2: atlpinkpony (small blind) showed [Kd Ks] and lost with a pair of KingsSeat 3: worldrecord1 (big blind) folded before FlopSeat 4: TyPe_SH folded before Flop (didn't bet)Seat 5: temberin folded before Flop (didn't bet)Seat 6: blitztwn36 showed [Ac Ah] and won ($86.30) with a flush, Ace high
Metternich 0
convert please, and no results.First hand he played it terrible. Not sure I can comment much other than that, it might be prejudiced by the results but a turn fold doesn't seem like a bad idea when you see a ridiculous overshove like that.Second hand you should reraise preflop, to $6-$7. I'm not opposed to getting it all in on a flop that drawy, especially since you hold 2 of the outs of one of the most probable draws you're facing. Since we know the results, I'm obligated to tell you that BBFIDTS

KingJames 11
Hand 1:Don't over shove like thatPot is somewhere around 22 and you bet 38... lead out for 12-15 and see what villain doesNLHE is all about gaining as much info as you can and making good decision, by shoving we don't get info and we're simply hoping hero didn't flop a flush, higher set or turn a straightThe only hands that call you there are ones that beat youHand 2:Reraise preflopI don't want this to come off harsh/rude but I think you're afraid to play on the flop and later streets. In NLHE having a good hand preflop doesn't mean you want to auto shove on later streets, as I said above you need to ingest all info and make decisions...two tough hands though and welcome to the forums
king0fhearts80 0
1st hand- you needed to slow down immediately. you hit a set, big hand, but 3hearts on flop. You need to play cautious, because obviously your opponent had a strong had to play against you. he figures he can hit a flush or a straight for the potential nut hand. So you moving in huge is sweetening th pot for his upset over you. raise and if he calls on the flop slow down on the turn. if a heart hits then either check or bet to find out where youre at. you might win the pot right there but if he reraises you, you smooth call it hoping to catch a pair on board to make a full.2nd hand- typicall hand. Alot of ppl push on the flop when a small board hits, with overcards. Alot of the time you can bet the pot or 2/3rds and see what he does. Aces are easy to read with flops like that. They bet out like there is nothing in the world to beat them. So if you feel a super agressive bet like that, you can eith make a decision, cut your losses (only on a great read that he has AA) or call him down. In you situation you raised his $8 bet to like $34! A little overkill, even if youhave the better hand you are going to force a fold, and win a small pot. Sometimes you should think to sandbag and drag him along for one more bet, but in this case against aces you should consider what his bet is telling you. reraise his bet, maybe just double it, if he pushes you all in, then he is sitting on AA or bigger than 1 pair
nutzzcase 0
i think u play 2 many tournaments cash game is more about value betting .
copernicus 0
i think u play 2 many tournaments cash game is more about value betting .That could definitely be part of the problem. When you started out in NL by playing tourneys the tendency is to play way to fast, to protect hands against draws at the expense of tEV because it enhances survival and (possibly) $EV as a result. The above comments are all solid, Id just add that the OP says "Do I need to bet more on flop to discourage a call?". This is the opposite of the way you need to think...you bet when youre ahead to encourage calls, not discourage them. Sets are +EV even against huge draws on the flop. the flop bet is fine. The turn overbet is exactly the opposite of what you want. At that point you are way ahead of draws but way behind a made straight. Both call for smaller bets, not larger bets. atlpinkpony 0
Good stuff guys...I really appreciate it.I figure the only way to learn is to show your losing hands, even if you played it like a donk ;-0Thanks again
kkot 0
2nd hand - Probably tilting now in new game. Should I have reraised pf to see where I'm at? Even if he shoves, I probably have hard time laying down. Are you talking about laying down KK preflop? With only 90bb, there is just no way to flop KK preflop.
SCS 0
2nd hand - Probably tilting now in new game. Should I have reraised pf to see where I'm at? Even if he shoves, I probably have hard time laying down.Don't reraise to "see where you are at". This is horrible thinking. Reraise because you most likely have the best hand, and your opponents will call preflop with worse. Your reraise is for value, not solely for information. If villain shoves call. Yes, he'll have AA sometimes, but you'll also see AK, AQ, QQ and other hands as well. ANd even if villain does have AA you still have a 1/5 chance of drawing out.
