Blech. Could be a legit hand that beats you, like JJ, T9, flush, or he could just be repping the flush with a big pair. My philosphy is to give credit for big hands facing huge river bets unless I have very good reason to suspect something fishy so I don't think I'd call off another $8.30 here.

I'd expect to be beat here a lot, but I never fold sets at this level. Never.Well, maybe not never, but almost never. :club:

Huh, wrote a reply but it seems to have vanished so take 2:Slowplaying JJ on a fd/sd board. Not clever, but possible. I'd be more likely to give him credit for that if he raises turn. Or r/r preflop.Slowplaying 9T 2 streets then shoving when a flush hits, seems pretty insane, but perhaps he doesn't want to be bluffed off his straight on the river. We have 2nd set, and a situation where we are very rarely behind. I call. And laugh at villain even if he does have us beat, because he butchered his hand either way.

this is 9T every time I call it. I don't think I can fold. The flush is back door, so it's not THAT likely. Not likely enough to fold any way.

So everyone advocates calling but expecting to be beat?I didn't fold either. I called and he had :club::th.My reasons for calling were similar to most of the responses. Something like "There's no way I'm folding a set" but there are really very few hands that make sense that I beat when he shoves the river right?

He almost certainly has a hand; I don't ever recall seeing someone open bluff shove the river, especially when a str8 and flush get there. Maybe pot the turn to really charge him for either of the flush draws he may have. But I would still call here hoping he has a slow played 2 pair or AJ even. And then be tilted when he shows a flush.
