I was in the early stages of a tourney at a local B&M when I was faced with this situation. The blinds were 50/100, and there were nine players at the table. I had about 2200 in chips and UTG+1 had around 3000. UTG+1 seemed like one of the more solid players at the table, and, when he had a hand, he played aggressively. UTG+1 called the BB.I have AA on the button, and everyone else folded to me. I raised to 300. (At this point, I put UTG+1 on a small to med. Pocket pair or something like AQ or AJ; although, I think the pocket pair more likely. I wanted to keep him in the hand in hopes of extracting more chips.) SB folds, BB folds.UTG+1 calls.Flop: QQ2 rainbowUTG+1 checks.I bet 400. UTG+1 raises to 800. (There is now 1950 in the pot and I’m getting nearly 5 to 1 odds to call. This actually scares me because this is the first time I’ve seen him check-raise, and he’s giving me great odds to call.) If I call, I’m down to 1100 in chips, and I’m facing two more bets—I’m fairly certain that the rest of my chips will have to go into to the pot to win it. If I fold, I have 1500 in chips, and the blinds are low enough that I have a good shot at making a comeback. Should I have called, folded, or raised all-in? I’ll tell you what I did after I get some feedback, but I will tell you that I didn’t feel like calling was a good decision at that time. I felt that either folding or going all-in were my only options. (On a side-note that may be pertinent :? , I was caught in a bluff earlier at the table with UTG+1 present. The flop was similar: Jd-7s-Js and I had As-Kh in the hole. The other player made a 100 bet and, we were the only two players in the hand, so I called. The turn was 3s. The other player checked, and I checked. River was a blank. Other player checked, and I bet 400 (pot-sized bet). He called and turned over a set of Jacks. He said that he was worried that I had made the flush on the turn and would’ve folded if I had gone all-in. I wondered if this earlier bluff might not have factored in to UTG+1’s raise.)

If you go with the read that UTG+1 is a fairly aggressive and solid player than I would fold this one. His limp in from UTG+1 makes me think KQ, possibly AQ but i would expect a raise from him preflop. The reason that I think he has a Q is the fact that he figures your going to bet because you are the preflop raiser and has a strong enough hand to check-raise and he only raised the minimum trying to get you to call. If he was trying to bluff he wouldve raised more because for all he knows you could have AK and missed completly or he wouldve just bet out on the flop. He definately has a q i fold that one (if we are saying that he is a somewhat smart aggresive player). Its always suspicious when a aggressive player check-raises the min.

Fold.Min-check raise from a good player signals strength
Last night I stayed up late playing poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died.

Thanks all for the replies. I was honestly looking for reinforcement on my play. This will be a little anti-climatic, but I did, in fact, fold the hand, and, when I asked what he had, he said, "I don't remember." LOL Poker players have such selective memories. Anyway, I ended up finishing 9th in the tourny (one place out of the money), and I can't help but think that this particular hand was critical. Since 3 out of the 4 of you said that folding was the right call, I do feel a little better about it. Thanks all.
