So I'm normally a NL tournament player, but I've heard that limit is soft, so i thought i'd give it a shot today. What did I do wrong here? Should I have called the river?

As played, call the river. The pot is too big to fold for one more bet now. You only have to be ahead like 1 time out of 12 hands to be profitable.

I would have bet the flop after he checks to you though.

He was really tight, and I though that his most likely hand to raise with from that position, but not re raise was either AK or JJ, both of which I'm way behind. If he has something like 1010, I'm way ahead. AQ is unlikely 'cause I had QQ, and he was really tight, so no other A10, or face sorta gut shots seemed likely. way ahead/way behind, imo. Didn't think a check would hurt if i was way ahead.

You have to call that river. He could easily be 3betting a jack there.

No worries.

For the future, they'll look something like this, depending on which converter you use:

Poker Stars
Limit Holdem Ring game
Limit: $0.25/$0.5
9 players
Converter

Pre-flop: (9 players) Hero is UTG+1 with qh.gif qc.gif
UTG raises, Hero 3-bets, 7 folds, UTG calls.

Flop: kh.gif jc.gif js.gif (7.4SB, 2 players)
UTG checks, Hero checks.

Turn: kc.gif (3.7BB, 2 players)
UTG bets, Hero calls.

River: qd.gif (5.7BB, 2 players)
UTG bets, Hero raises, UTG 3-bets, Hero folds.
Uncalled bets: 1BB returned to UTG.

Results:
Final pot: 9.7BB

You have to bet the flop 100% of the time in that spot.

Also, that is an automatic call on the river.

Lastly, being a Red Sox fan is better than being a Yankees fan, so you're OK.

If you don't bet the flop it's hard to figure out if we're ahead or not and how to go from there. Also, betting dangerous flops like this as a bluff with position lets you pick up some pots when you don't connect with the board. As played I don't like the raise on the river and if we're going to fold to a 3-bet we might as well just call.

actually, the more i look at this hand the more i like it

whats calling us on the flop we can beat?
i think it's a pretty close wa/wb on the flop. the only hand we're remotely worried about is Ax

a K is never folding and we may fold out smaller pairs that might give us another bet later on that wont on the flop.

turn is an easy just call

river is interesting, of course. i dont agree with "we shouldnt raise because we dont want to call a 3-bet" as a general statement but it may be the best reasoning here. though we do get called by Js and maybe some weirdly played AA or something.

SSHE talks about how folding for one bet on the end in a large pot is probably the biggest mistake a limit player can make. calling that bet when wrong is a very small mistake.

Why call the turn if you hit your dream card and fold?
