Wow, hats off to Helmuth for having the CL w/ 24 left for a solid shot at his first non-hold em bracelet. While there isn't 30 poker brat threads like there usually is every year on FCP, I do want to ask one question:Whats more impressive?12 bracelets in a game of such high variance as NLHE/LHE/PLHE?Or 12 bracelets in a variety of different games?

I dunno, getting bracelets in NL events where 1) the fields are larger2) the variance is higheris quite impressive. Not sure about exactly when he won his bracelets, pre/past poker boom and what sort of field sizes he beat in general.Anyway, rooting for him to win this. I like the guy

if phil can pull this off that'll give him a braclet in 3 consecutive years... very impressive given the huge fields. like him or not that's quite a feat.

He's obv sitting out during o8 and the stud games, so not that impressive.
Or notHellmuth Takes Chips from EstherStud High:On fourth, Phil Hellmuth completes with x-x / {5-Spades} and Esther Rossi raises with x-x / {A-Clubs}. Hellmuth calls. On fourth, Rossi bets {9-Clubs} and Hellmuth calls {7-Spades}.On fifth, Rossi checks {4-Clubs} and Hellmuth bets {Q-Spades}. Rossi calls. On sixth, Rossi checks {8-Diamonds} and Hellmuth bets {J-Spades}. Rossi calls. On seventh, both check. Hellmuth rolls over {2-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{7-Clubs} for two pair, and he is up to 390,000.Another updateHellmuth Extends LeadPhil Hellmuth now has 420,000 - well ahead of second-place Tommy Hang with 282,000.

I think winning the Holdem events can be considered more impressive due to the massive amount of people who are good at the game compared to how many are good at the mixed games and the field sizes are much different.

Until about 5 years ago I doubt there was a big difference. In fact the mixed games and other games may have been a bit tougher fields. Since the big boom about 2003 or 2004 that may be true. But most of Hellmuth's bracelets were won before the boom. I think he's won 2 or 3 since 04.
