However, going into the properties menu and clicking the box labeled Run this program as an administrator does not work.I have no idea how to create an association, and it seems like that's all I need to do. Please help. Obviously, I could always keep doing what I'm doing now, but it gets annoying.

Try right clicking, thenProperties --> Advanced --> Check 'Run as Administrator'this will permanently run it as admin instead of having to do it individually everytime. Unless this is what you already tried (not just right clicking and selecting run as admin)...
