So anytime I try to open any program (Poker Stars, Internet Explorer, misc game, windows media player, etc.), I get this error:"The file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel."This problem is temporarily fixed if I right-click on the program icon and click Run as Administrator. However, going into the properties menu and clicking the box labeled Run this program as an administrator does not work.I have no idea how to create an association, and it seems like that's all I need to do. Please help. Obviously, I could always keep doing what I'm doing now, but it gets annoying.

Do you have windows vista? If so, downgrade to xp. If not, I don't know; have never seen that error.

It's pretty tough to make someone look dumb when you don't use proper English.

Try right clicking, thenProperties --> Advanced --> Check 'Run as Administrator'this will permanently run it as admin instead of having to do it individually everytime. Unless this is what you already tried (not just right clicking and selecting run as admin)...

I don't get it either, but my 3 months experience with windows vista showed me that it sucks. It's like having a high maintenance fat girlfriend-it's just not worth the effort.

Did you upgrade to Vista? If so you need to back up your files and do the clean install. Vista installs differently then previous versions and paths software, and hardware wise get changed and cant run correctly, I have duplicated this on 3 computers and each time I did the clean install (full) and everything works. I recommend backing up important stuff, but most everything will remain under WINDOWS.OLD under your C: drive.

this may have been the case in the past, but it's truly not anymore. hafd is right, your advice is at best impractical. you do realize that some new hardware these days isn't getting XP driver support, right?
I got tired of logging in and out on my iPod. I made this so I could stay logged in on both my PC and this.

yeah vista really isn't difficult in the least bit, and downgrading to xp just because you can't figure out how to change settings is worse than retarded.also, advice ≠ advise.

I gave my advice. I'm not forcing anyone to follow it. But I guess you're amused by it and that's fine by me.I tried it for a few months after it came out; it was the worst OS I've ever tried. If it has improved that's great. I am yet to buy hardware that requires vista, but knowing microsoft I'm sure their support for xp is rapidly decreasing.

vista was utter garbage for a while, yeah. I don't know MS's plans for xp, but I do know that dell now charges extra to downgrade from vista these days.

Contrary to rumours, vista (mostly) isn't the devil. Rumours that I had enthusiastically spread. I like vista.sigh.
I'm retired.
