TexasHoldem.com is hosting a charity tournament for an organization called Camp H.E.A.L., associated with the US Peace Corps. Before you freak out and decide you're not touching anything that has to do with the US and poker, please realize that the money is going to those in need and not to our dreadful government. Below is the press release explaining what Camp HEAL is.
The tournament costs $50 to enter, with $20 going to the prize pool and $30 going to camp heal. The tournament is tomorrow, June 28th, and 2PM EST. If you're playing tomorrow, please make this one of the tournaments that you enter. Camp HEAL only needs a few thousand more in order to run this summer, and it's a worthy cause.
The tournament entry fee is only $50. By entering, you are automatically donating $30 to Camp H.E.A.L., and the other $20 goes into the tournament prize pool which all players will compete for. TexasHoldem.com will also give all charity poker tournament entrants a free entry into their $50,000 tournament that takes place on Sunday June 29th, allowing all donators to have a chance to win tens of thousands of dollars while helping a good cause.
You can also make a tax-deductible donation to Camp H.E.A.L. anytime at:

Camp H.E.A.L. (Human Trafficking, Education, AIDS/HIV, Leadership) is being conducted this year in Svetagorsk, Eastern Ukraine, from August 1-7, 2008 for approximately 60 campers aged 16-22 who come from across Ukraine. With the cooperation of a local community organization, 20 US Peace Corps Volunteers, and junior counselors who attended H.E.A.L. last year, H.E.A.L. will help spread accurate messages about HIV/AIDS and Human Trafficking through the development of a peer education program.
Campers will learn facts about human trafficking, AIDS/HIV, healthy lifestyles, and peer pressure through classes taught by Peace Corps Volunteers and Ukrainians. They will then learn leadership, project design, and management skills.
Equipped with these facts and skills campers will demonstrate their leadership by carrying out two projects. During their time at H.E.A.L., the campers will break into groups and provide presentations on what they have learned to Ukrainian youth attending nearby camps. This will increase their confidence, presentation skills, and provide a practical component to their camp experience. Finally, the students and their accompanying Peace Corps Volunteer will design their own HIV/AIDS or Human Trafficking projects to implement in their communities.
Camp H.E.A.L. is sponsored by a local community organization and the members have already demonstrated a commitment to helping plan and implement the camp. The organization will provide community contributions through labor, use of equipment, and class instruction. Peace Corps Volunteers are organizing the camp, teaching lessons, acting as group leaders, and working with the campers back in their communities. Students from numerous communities in Ukraine will pay for their own travel to and from the camp, as well as expenses incurred while traveling. However, HEAL still needs to pay for room, board, equipment, and operating expenses.
By helping Camp H.E.A.L. you are providing youth from all over Ukraine with the opportunity to make friends, learn, and improve their communities. This one camp will yield over 60 projects across Ukraine, a country suffering from the dual plagues of HIV/AIDS and Human Trafficking, plagues made all the worse by the pervasive lack of information in the very communities where H.E.A.L. campers come from.
