Hey guys, you may know me from such posts as "I dip my balls in scalding hot chocolate before I play poker," and "The Kool-Aid guy danced around me while I blacked out in the bodily fluids of many people at a Foxwoods craps table," but this post is a serious one. Please read it!

TexasHoldem.com is hosting a charity tournament for an organization called Camp H.E.A.L., associated with the US Peace Corps. Before you freak out and decide you're not touching anything that has to do with the US and poker, please realize that the money is going to those in need and not to our dreadful government. Below is the press release explaining what Camp HEAL is.

The tournament costs $50 to enter, with $20 going to the prize pool and $30 going to camp heal. The tournament is tomorrow, June 28th, and 2PM EST. If you're playing tomorrow, please make this one of the tournaments that you enter. Camp HEAL only needs a few thousand more in order to run this summer, and it's a worthy cause.

TexasHoldem.com and Camp H.E.A.L are teaming up to host a charity poker tournament on Saturday, June 28th at 2PM EST. This is a chance to have fun playing poker while helping a great cause – the US Peace Corps Ukraine’s Camp H.E.A.L. Sign up to help a great cause and play at TexasHoldem.com today!

The tournament entry fee is only $50. By entering, you are automatically donating $30 to Camp H.E.A.L., and the other $20 goes into the tournament prize pool which all players will compete for. TexasHoldem.com will also give all charity poker tournament entrants a free entry into their $50,000 tournament that takes place on Sunday June 29th, allowing all donators to have a chance to win tens of thousands of dollars while helping a good cause.

You can also make a tax-deductible donation to Camp H.E.A.L. anytime at:

https://www.peacecorps.gov/index.cfm?shell=...rojdesc=343-122

Camp H.E.A.L. (Human Trafficking, Education, AIDS/HIV, Leadership) is being conducted this year in Svetagorsk, Eastern Ukraine, from August 1-7, 2008 for approximately 60 campers aged 16-22 who come from across Ukraine. With the cooperation of a local community organization, 20 US Peace Corps Volunteers, and junior counselors who attended H.E.A.L. last year, H.E.A.L. will help spread accurate messages about HIV/AIDS and Human Trafficking through the development of a peer education program.

Campers will learn facts about human trafficking, AIDS/HIV, healthy lifestyles, and peer pressure through classes taught by Peace Corps Volunteers and Ukrainians. They will then learn leadership, project design, and management skills.

Equipped with these facts and skills campers will demonstrate their leadership by carrying out two projects. During their time at H.E.A.L., the campers will break into groups and provide presentations on what they have learned to Ukrainian youth attending nearby camps. This will increase their confidence, presentation skills, and provide a practical component to their camp experience. Finally, the students and their accompanying Peace Corps Volunteer will design their own HIV/AIDS or Human Trafficking projects to implement in their communities.

Camp H.E.A.L. is sponsored by a local community organization and the members have already demonstrated a commitment to helping plan and implement the camp. The organization will provide community contributions through labor, use of equipment, and class instruction. Peace Corps Volunteers are organizing the camp, teaching lessons, acting as group leaders, and working with the campers back in their communities. Students from numerous communities in Ukraine will pay for their own travel to and from the camp, as well as expenses incurred while traveling. However, HEAL still needs to pay for room, board, equipment, and operating expenses.

By helping Camp H.E.A.L. you are providing youth from all over Ukraine with the opportunity to make friends, learn, and improve their communities. This one camp will yield over 60 projects across Ukraine, a country suffering from the dual plagues of HIV/AIDS and Human Trafficking, plagues made all the worse by the pervasive lack of information in the very communities where H.E.A.L. campers come from.

Please sign up to play at TexasHoldem.com, or donate to Camp H.E.A.L. at:

https://www.peacecorps.gov/index.cfm?shell=...rojdesc=343-122

Thank you so much for the support and kindness you have shown.

Camp H.E.A.L. and TexasHoldem.com

Even if you can't find the time to play tomorrow, please try to make a donation. Tell your friends, your family, let's get this camp off the ground and show that we're not all degenerates; we've got heart!

Thanks,
Seth

Most of FCP is already signed up and we're not making any money in running this tournament.

Right but you make money by the people who sign up and put money on and then end up playing other games.

I'm sure your intentions are good with this fundraiser, but it also seems if you wanted the most to help this charity you would host this on a major site with more traffic.

Not trying to bust your balls, just playing devil's advocate?

FYP

As far as charity tournaments go, if Full Tilt or Stars wanted to pick up this tournament, fantastic. Good luck getting the huge sites to pick up small fish charities. I hope we get beaten in the charity department, the world will be a better place.

We were approached, we said absolutely, we made a donation, and now we'd like people to do the same. You can donate through the donation page in the OP if you're not interested in playing the tournament.

The tournament's a fun and easy way to donate, but we have absolutely no problem with nobody playing if their donation page gets blown up. Like I said before, we don't make any money on people coming to play here, it's just a good way for people to donate to charity without really feeling like they donated without getting anything in return, know what I mean?

I love the game of poker for the competition, the psychology, the never-ending quest to improve, the advanced and sometimes minute complexities not everyone sees when they play, and the enjoyment of succeeding after giving all your energy to reach a goal that may at first seem unattainable but that you find a way to make it possible.

Seriously?

This is like going to Calvin Eyre (before he left) and telling him that if he really cared about a charity tournament, he should have it on Stars. It's ridiculous. (Not to mention you don't even have to play to donate.)

Don't be such a fuck.

I did see that you apologized, but I still have to reply.

One last bump since the tournament is in a few hours and then I'll let the thread die if there's no interest.

Thanks
