1st hand at the table - no reads

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.05 BB (8 handed) Poker Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FCP)

MP1 ($6.27)
MP2 ($4.18)
Hero ($5)
Button ($6.82)
SB ($11.16)
BB ($11.32)
UTG ($18.59)
UTG+1 ($4.85)

Preflop: Hero is CO with 5 icon_suit_club.gif , 9 icon_suit_club.gif . Hero posts a blind of $0.05.
3 folds, MP2 calls $0.05, Hero (poster) checks, 2 folds, BB checks.

Flop: ($0.17) J icon_suit_diamond.gif , 2 icon_suit_club.gif , 9 icon_suit_diamond.gif (3 players)
BB checks, MP2 checks, Hero bets $0.15, BB calls $0.15, MP2 folds.

Turn: ($0.47) A icon_suit_diamond.gif (2 players)
BB checks, Hero checks.

River: ($0.47) 5 icon_suit_heart.gif (2 players)
BB checks, Hero??

My line of thinking on the river is that he wouldn't check the flush since I checked behind on the turn. I checked the turn mostly because I felt like I was behind to a pair of Jacks or possibly a better 9 and didn't want to commit any more money to the pot. When I made 2 pair on the river, I felt pretty confident I had the best hand. Just not sure how much to bet in order to get a call.

We're pretty much just trying to get some value from a jack and sometimes another nine.
He's probably scared of the flush and the Ace, so I'm thinking somewhere around 1/2 to 2/3 pot.

Either 0.25 or 0.3, depending on how much you judge him to be a calling station.

Too bad. You want proper strategy? Don't post preflop.

would you consider 5-9 a limpable hand? i dont think you would. you posting the blinds early is going to result in limping with a garbage hand most of the time.

Obviously I don't post the blind if I join the table while UTG.

But since everyone is saying not to post early, I have stopped.

Posting in the cutoff is not a bad thing to do. If you think about the blinds as buying a certain number of hands, its actually a good idea. At a 10 person table, paying BB+SB gives you 10 hands for 1.5XBB. Posting in the cut off gives you 8 hands for 1BB. And the two you miss out on you're pretty much always OOP for anyway.
