http://sports.espn.g...tory?id=3450453he was playing with a stress fracture. Damn. He is so freaking good....but I really fear he jeopardized a lot just to win one major. Speedy recovery golf god.

That sucks, I was hoping he'd be at Congressional at his tournament this year because I was going to go on one of the weekend days. Oh well.

At least we now know that he wasn't faking his knee injury.

It may help USA actually. Maybe the rest of the team will feel more of a collectivity, and also be able to concentrate on the team's goals more, without the whole Tiger Circus/media frenzy that usually surrounds him. It must be a little distracting for all the other USA players... so now they can relax more and not have to play second fiddle to Tiger, which I assume could have demoralized some of the team in recent years.

Ewing theory FTW????Tiger actually has been a massive Ryder Cup disappointment (reminds me of how Pete Sampras always sucked in Davis Cup) so it is not the end of the world. Maybe the US will figure out how to play well in the teams portion....Europe always builds a giant lead in that part of the competition.

We're talking about Tiger Woods. Not Paul Pierce.

It was actually questioned by a few pros. Concensus was that he showed pain only whenever he hit a bad shot. I'm pretty sure it was Retief Goosen (not 100% sure, it was someone like that though) who said it publicly.

I don't think he faked it necessarily but I do think it was a little strange that after he made the tying birdie putt on 18 on Sunday he jumped and danced around no problem. But then he hobbles up and down the fairway.IDK.

You are not understanding knee injuries and the golf swing. His knee was fine to walk or jump.....he probably could have even done some running....but only over short distances. The golf swing is a different animal. It is very very hard on your knees....especially on the follow-through when the knee just completely torques (and tiger woods produces a lot of torque). And with anything that is recently surgically repaired....constant motion (long walks up hilled fairways right after torquing his knee trying to bomb a drive) are much tougher than short burts. Personally, I dont think Tiger should have played at all even though he won. Ignoring doctor's orders is bad policy.

It was pretty obvious anytime he walked down a hill that he was in a good amount of pain. Tiger and his swing coach were really worried about hitting the ball off a downhill lie, but he never had to do that, which is amazing in it's own right. He hadn't hit balls off anything but a flat lie prior to the Open, which is just nuts.

Not to mention adrenaline's ability to mask pain.

another great point. most people dont realize that walking downhill is tougher on your knees than walking uphill. A lot tougher in fact.

I couldn't figure out, why the hell didn't he take the golf cart. I know he likes to walk but wtf, your knee is shot! Unless walking caused 0 pain and the motion is just so totally unrelated it didn't matter. But I somehow doubt that.
