early on in low buy in mtt

Recommended Posts

I have a question, Does anyone have a problem isolating in the early rounds of a Low buy-in MTT? I'm the type of person that will put in a 4xBB raise to enter the pot with any hand I have, but it seems that the whole world will come in for this early in the tourney. Granted, I want 1-2 callers, but not 6 if I have AA.I guess my question is, with 1500 in chips and blinds at 10/20 or 15/30, do any of you raise more than the standard 80 or 120? I like to keep my play consistent so that noone can get a read on me, so I tend to always stick to the standard raise, but I don't know if that's a good idea for these tourneys.(If I can get through the first 3 rounds of these tourneys, I normally cash, but I just normally can't get through these rounds due to my small raises that get called everywhere and normally get taken down due to the passiveness of the $1, $2, $3 MTT players.)Thanks in advance.

i think you have some options as to how to get through these rounds. if your hole cards are premium and you are worried about someone drawing out on you then raise more than the standard 2x-4x or whatever your standard raise is. Yeah usually you'll still get callers early on in a small buy in i think on alot of the sites. If your on party i'd definitley overbet. and then just hope you get a good flop or at least not an unfavorable one and then pound it.Lots of times you won't get any premium hands but are definitley offered the option of limping into lots of unraised pots. Use it too your advantage, limp in when you are in late middle or late position with lots of stuff you wouldn't normally play and hope for a big flop and a chance to double up. suited connectors and baby pairs and non suited connectors in late positon. If there are alot of limpers you can also go for a steal on the button or in the blinds; just make a ridiculous raise and hope everyone drops out or you at least get heads up and can represent huge on the flop. (this is risky and i don't do it often without good cards but i don't think it is an unreasonalbe strategy. i would definitley make a larger than normal raise if i were holding say jacks 10s or nines in the sb and i had 6 limpers in front of me).anyway just some thoughts i have right now.
