In response to the recent blog--while I agree this may be blown out of proportion, it's definitely annoying to most women to be referred to as "sweetie" or something similar in a professional setting. It's a little overly familiar and slightly condescending. It's not endearing unless it's said by your beloved. Even then, it loses some of its allure when a brazillion strangers have called you the same thing all day long. And chivalry would demand something more along the lines of "miss" or "ma'am".I'll make an exception for people over 75 years old though...just seems to come with the territory there.So to summarize:[x] grating, not endearing[x] kind of patronizing[ ] good reason to not vote for someone for Presidentalso[x] Going from long-time lurker straight to the new topic button makes me a jerk.

I just saw the Bush speach about appeasment and Hitler, just wow. This guy is insane. I lean towards the right(at least what the right used to stand for, fiscal responsiblity, tough on crime,etc) but this guy is a terrible president and a horrible human being. The world will be a better place in 7 months.

I worked as a journalist for a number of years. I've dealt with a lot of BS, but usually, if I had a problem with how I was treated by a source, I would deal with it directly. As for the sweetie comment, I think it shows that Obama is probably just a bit too friendly with members of the media. I got on well with a number of people I dealt with on a weekly basis. But I always knew if the time came, and my source screwed up, I would offer them all the space in print I could to defend themselves, but I would never offer them mercy or protection.It's a very small mistake and one he probably won't repeat.I do get how it could make a female reporter feel less respected or valued. If I was her, I'd just tell him flat out that her name is X, and that's what she'd prefer to be called.

Historically he is right. Don't pay attention to that though, this brand of extremeist is perfectly reasonable. The thing is, I saw this to, and you know what I thought? I like to think he actually did not mean it what so ever. Using the Israeli parliament celebrating their 60th year anniversary referring to nazis as a platform for domestic politics is just horrible and I do not think, even that disgusting puppet would do it.

I'm just going to hope he had enough respect to not do it.Just like American Idol I've given up on American Politics. You all already have your mind made up before you hear the issue. If you are left you are left, if you are right you are right. In Ireland our parties are not so drastically different than in America so its different I guess but its so sad that the issue is barely important, just who caused it.

I hear both sides of pretty much every issue, the problem is that in this country we allow two very different types of thinking to battle it out, and you don't get it because they ARE so different. It's awesome, it really is, and a major reason why it goes something like this: U.S...............................................and then everybody else. It's the one thing the two parties USED to be able to agree on. No longer, the left is to busy worrying about countries liking us, and the right is (rightly) saying,"**** it, when did we ever need approval to be free?"

No, I don't know. That's one of many discussions, and the one you chose to focus on is the most ridiculous and the most fun, but it serves it's purpose. You should continue focusing on one conversation I had, though, it really shows your colors in the bias argument.
