Trouble Late In Mtts

I dont have a specific situation or HH to show but I have been getting very deep in alot of small and mid stakes MTTs. However I am having alot of trouble when the field gets down to 2 or 3 tables. My end game obviously needs help. Any suggestions?

Could be one or both of the following:1) You're becoming trigger-shy at the end when your stack gets low and not pushing enough2) You're becoming trigger-shy in the mid-late stages and not stealing enough, which results in becoming shortstackedThis is assuming you're not also playing carelessly and spewing chips when you do build a stack.

I feel like alot of the time later in the tourney i lose my feel for where I am in pots because with stack sizes what they are I don't put alot of raises and reraises in for fear of having to call off a huge all in bet. I play a descent short stack but like I siad Im constantly pulling up 30-12ths.

this is what you gotta work with. Don't be afraid of being knocked out. Your aim is to finish 1st isn't it? Try to be the captain of the table and exploit other players fear of getting knocked out. Steal, re-steal and be one big pain in the ass. Barry Greenstein once said that late stage tournament poker isn't "real poker anyway". It's hard to tell you exactly what to do. I suggest you read (re-read) Harrington on hold em vol II. Also check out some good instructual poker videos from the well known internet players (can't give you a link cuz I have none atm).

HoH 1&2 are crucial reading for tourney players. But I agree with Snake's general point, that in MTTs your goal is to fight for a deep finish and that means getting aggressive and taking chances in the later stages.

Im sitting with 18k now after 2nd break in the 10k grntd on tilt . Avg stack is 13 and there is 120 left. 54 pays. do i get aggro now or wait?up to 24k aq vs a7

Excellent advice. I also have Cardrunners - and reading HoH. Have had a lot of the same problems with my game - it is the same for everyone and not the most comfortable thing to get used to. The videos will probably help more then anything to see it in practice.Now your last question about getting aggro at this point in a tournament - yes and no. It really doesn't work like that. You need to keep up with the table flow, see how players are playing. If someone is opening a lot of pots but folding to a 3 bet, try to exploit that lighter. If someone is a complete NIT and opens, get out. See if the blinds are not defending and exploit them - there is a ton of money out there in blinds and antes. At some points your steals only have to work 40 to 50% of the time to be profitable plays.All this is stuff that I am currently working on.Ummmm, and go TID!

search for players who don't defend or who play feared and put your chips in their faces.edit: and to confirm jmbreslin, yeah, if you're a big stack, avoid other big stacks unless you have the goods.

Following Travis, you need to be selective about whom you challenge at this point. If you start raising with a wide range to steal and put pressure on your opponents, you want to avoid tangling with bigstacks that can cripple you and the small stacks that are looking for pushing opportunities. Focus on the stacks that have enough chips that they're not ready to put all their chips in the middle but are still short enough that they need to be selective and will be playing scared.That said, look for spots to take small risks to build your stack by picking off shorties. Since they're getting desperate they will be prepared to push with a wider range, so you can be prepared to make some calls with hands that have some showdown value when doing so won't hurt your stack if you lose.

Put down volume 1, and pick up volume 2. The second book is all about endgame, which is what you are asking about. V1 will help you. V2 will help you with THIS problem.
