Limping In 6 Max...

I play a lot of plo8 6 max and am always weighing the benefits of primarily limping or primarily raising. Lately about 85% of the hands I play (when not in either blind) I have been entering with a standard raise. To me this seems the only way to be profitable, especially as the limits go up. Was just wondering about people's arguments from either side of the spectrum...Just looking for some more o8 discussion

I think I'm too new at PLO to have a meaningful opinion, but I think a liberal range for the first raise is good. And to reraise obv a tighter range, but not just AAxx hands either. But some hands are limpers no matter what.

there are two ways to play plo8 (yes i know this is a gross simplification)you can limp lots and make lots of small raises in position. this make lots of large multiway pots. you then take down pots when you have the goods. you can raise a lot. the idea is to get pots heads up with you in position against players who you have lots of control over. you then bet the pot on every street with out looking at the cards that hit until they bet back at you, in which case you look at the cards and see if you feel like getting it all in. i am only exaggerating a little. you are looking to gets lots of folds on the turn and take down pots around 30bbs. you should learn how to play both ways, then recognize which way a situation calls for and utilize it. i would say i have three speeds, i think a very good player at this game should have about five.

Whoops, my original post was in error, thinking I was in the O-high forum, not O8.However, I think the smae logic applies. You have to open raise with more than just your nice AAXX hands. Being too predictable leaves you well open to manipulation.

What's the rationale for raising so liberally?

antistuff gives a nice answer to this question. But in addition, I'd say that a lot of online players are very nitty on the flop(even at 0.25/0.50). So if pots are small, you'll never get their money in there unless they have a genuinely dangerous hand. The way to get the game going(and ideally money flowing your way) is to make pots larger with a wide range of hands, so they will start to put money in on the flop with less than nut/nut-draw.Experience and opponent reading will tell you when to value-bet later street or bluff like antistuff said. And gear change helps too...
