I definitely think there are better ones out there, but I just heard this one tonight and I thought it was pretty damn good. Sometimes his stuff is entertaining, but other times it's pretty damn amazing in the sense of great flow plus having awesome meaning.

... it's basically the quintessential song explaining the reason rappers like Biggie rap about material things.
It was the reason. But now most of them do it because they can figure out how to evolve, emote or articulate, so the just make shit up about living like that, because their idols did.

Back in the days when I was a TeenagerBefore I had status before I had a pagerI used to sit around listening to hip-hopMy pops said it reminded him of be-bopI said "Dad don't you know that things go in cycles"I think that's right, I can't remember the rest.

oh, agreed. That's why I said "rappers like biggie". 15 years after biggie, and guys like 50 are still humping his dead corpse, going over the same old ground he did, but sounding about 1/20th as good as he did.

It's okay, I'm just a big Biggie guy, and this was one of the songs that originally sold me on him.
Actually, as someone who doesn't particularly love B.I.G., I found it appalling that Kurt didn't know that one by the opening line. But I'm super smug, will probably know every verse anyone posts in here, and hold people to the strictest standard, to deflect and also justify that while most of the world has spend the last 2 years build a career or earning a degree, I've mostly been listening to hip-hop records and scorning you for not know enough about hip-hop records.

For the past few weeks, I've been having a "Cuban Linx" vs "Liquid Swords" battle, where I listen to one, then the other, trying to decide which I like better, and I still can't. I'd say 88 to about 96 was the absolute pinnacle of hip-hop, from about "Paid in Full" to "Reasonable Doubt" Most of my favorite stuff comes from that era.
