Simo Qualified In A Satellite In My Place

Recommended Posts

Granted this is just what Simo sent me, but I think good examples of how to play a tourney like this vs. how one might play a regular one. 35 entrants, top 5 qualified for a seat in the 75k weekly. Cheers simo for TID. Tourney is at 8pm ET on Sunday.Simo1223 (9:13:16 PM):[Offline IM sent 12h and 6m ago] Seat 1 - ACTION141 ($4875 in chips)Seat 2 - ANOUSKA1 ($5738 in chips)Seat 3 - ELTOROAA ($2910 in chips)Seat 4 - DONKSLAYER ($1810 in chips)Seat 6 - GL in the big one, well done Simo, though I hate the second hand, trash with no implied odds, so all you have is minimal fold equity against a hand thats calling with a wide range.

He isn't calling super light here.I'd say I net about 100-150 chips here. Given that I would still be above average chips if I lost I thought it was worthwhile to try and put pressure on him. If I fold he has 7bb, but if I shove and he folds he has 5.If I thought he would be calling with lower than A5 and KT I would snapfold. As it was he timebank called with KQ.The one that really annoyed me was the first AK where I basically got limp/minreraised.

I was wondering about that one. You had a pretty decent stack. Would calling be an option there, hoping to hit?

You haven't convinced me. The guy is sitting with an M of about 4 (pre-posting) and your raise looks like a steal here. There's enough of a chance he's going to call that I'm not risking 1/4 of my stack with 53o.

If hes as tight as Any pair, any broadway and A5+ hes folding 3/4 of the time and you pick up 300, for 225. You lose 1185 70% of the time he calls and win 1285 30% of the time he calls. Net is -219. If he calls looser it gets worse for a long time before it gets better because 53o doesnt pick up much hand equity at all as he loosens up, and your losing chunks of the blinds as he calls more.Theres no way you'll convince me this is a good play.

From a cEV perspective I guarantee it's definitely profitable. Even against a somewhat loose player it would be profitable.3/4 x 300 = +2251/4 x 70% x -1185 = -2071/4 x 30% x 1485 = +111225+111-207 = +$129I think it's at least close from a $EV perspective. At worst it's just below breakeven.Worst case is losing 1/4 of my stack which puts me at the average (with a full round before paying blinds next), and that only happens about 8% of the time.

1485? He only has 1285 for you to win. Also thats your most favorable end of the range. If he calls with ATC youre still a 64:36 dog, losing about 330. His range is a lot closer to ATC then top 25%. If you hadnt sucked out this wouldnt even be a discussion!

Sorry, it's 1385 not 1485. It makes little difference.His range is AT MOST top 1/3. Guaranteed.Assuming I'm a 2/1 dog when called against almost any range:(1-F) x 300 = 300 - 300FF x 2/3 x -1185 = -790F F x 1/3 x 1385 = 462F300 - 300F - 790F + 462F = 300 - 628F.300 - 628F = 0 at breakeven300/628 = F = 48%.For it to be worse than neutral cEV he has to call with over 48% of all hands.The interesting thing is, when we consider $EV. I'd like to hear thoughts on the $EV perspective and how that affects things at this stage of a satellite.

If this was a top 2 paid satellite, my shove there would definitely be the right move. Especially against this opponent. With it being top 5 paid I'm less certain. If rather than 1300 he had >1500 or <900 I don't think I'd have shoved, if that helps give some perspective on how close I think it is.

Not pwned when his calling range is ridiculously tight for this situation. The play is awful, period.
I weren't trying to be an azzhole.

Thanks for continuing the discussion.Rather than say I'm flat out wrong, give a range. Why should I pass up on chip equity here?

Regardless of opinion, tourney starts in 17 mins. Nice to see AP won't have to come up with much more than 40% overlay, LOL.
