I live 30 miles from Greensburg, Kansas, and they are having their graduation 1 year after an E-F5 tornado hit their town. President Bush will be here, but here's where it gets interesting, so will Fred Phelps guy and his WBC members. Apparatently, they will be protesting the graduation.

Here's a quote from their website (www.godhatesfags.com): "05/04/2008 1:45 PM - 3:00 PM Greensburg, KS Greensburg High School 600 S. Main St. This is for the Greensburg High School graduation. Thank God for Greensburg! He wiped that city to the ground- 95% lay barren, along with eleven killed Kansans. Because you have continued to rebel against God, the Wrath of God is upon you (and it doesn't look good)."

Some friends of mine are going to picket the picketers, and I might join them.

Thoughts?

Edit: This might be best suited in the religion forums, you can decide mods.

I bet Arianna Huffington was a super hottie when she was younger.

I hate Kansas almost as much as I hate Utah but I don't think God cares. The wbc should not to be re-picketed, they should be completely ignored.

I've always been tempted to do a one-man protest where I'm simultaneously protesting against both the protesters and counter-protesting morons.

Like, there are the godhatesfags people carrying their signs on one corner, there are the flag-wavers and slogan chanters on the other corner and I would be on a 3rd corner carrying a sign that says "YOU'RE BOTH FUCKING RETARDED"

(Great premise for a gay porn- Two young WBC members are virulently protesting homosexuality on a hot, sweaty summer day... Passions are running high... One takes his shirt off, glistening, as he screams obscenities at passing cars... The other notices how shapely his abs are... bwah-chicka-wah-wah)

1) Picketing 99 times out of 100 is an incredibly useless gesture. It changes nothing, does nothing.

2) Counter picketing these jokers is worse than useless. If worse comes to worse, and tensions flare, they will get more attention to their insane cause, and will sue the pants off the counter protesters, since they are all like lawyers...

3) you're picketing the insane, you realize that right? That seems double plus insane to me.

I guess I just don't see the point of the counter protest. Everyone knows they are crazy, no one takes them seriously, you're not going to stop them from protesting, so I just don't see what the use is at all.

I'm not going to picket this thing.

As much as I hate Fred Phelps, the people i've been talking to who are going to do it, I hate them even more...

I still want to go though, maybe some shit will go down and Bush will get knocked off and I can be on TV.
