My Thrilling Tale Of Tonight

Recommended Posts

OK, so for those of you who don't know, I'm basically a nut job when it comes to BRM, taking shots, going on sick runs (both winning and losing) etc. The title of my blog says it all really: Bankroll Management, Ha!So OK, I'm crazy, well, I've decided to give all of FCP a little glimpse in my sickness for just one night. Tonight, the night of the 23rd of April, 2008 AD, Anfield played host to the Champions-League semi-final clash of Chelsea and Liverpool. Being a Chelsea fan, I was looking forward to this and hoped Chelsea could win after being knocked out by Liverpool at the semi-final stage twice in the last three years. So I decided to go in search of betting on the game. I was too lazy to go to my local bookies, and I thought they might be closed by the time I got there. So I have to try to bet online. My buddy had no money online so I have to deposit. I put on 200euro (1euro-$1.60). I made the following bets (all euro):20 - Ballack to score first and Chelsea to win 2-1 -- 100/112 - Terry to score a header any time during the match -- 14/135 - Chelsea to have over 4 corners -- 11-1065 - 2 or 3 goals, exactly, to be scored in the match -- 1/1So that leaves about 68euro to be accounted for. That was lost gambling on a new leak I've formed, stupid gay games that have a definite mathematical edge for the house but some retards like me still play because they are fools. So I lose 68euro playing a mixture of BJ, roulette and "Deal, or No Deal?".Flash back to six weeks ago. It is 3 days before the Irish Open. Yours truly is planning on going up to grind the cash games because the 4.5k buy in is still out of his bankroll (even for a sicko like me). I had a good bit of cash on PokerStars thanks to a few nice MTT hits ($1.1k and $2.5k being the biggest) that I could withdraw if need be (and it was looking likely as there wasn't much live cash to use at the time). So for some reason or another, I had some money on this bookmaker/casino/poker site (paddypower.com). I can't remember the exact reason but I had 50euro or so on this site. I did the amazing, went on a heater of a life time. I turned this €50 into €4.1k at it's peak. Red 7 and red 12 were hitting every other spin, it's sick. So when I took a break from roulette, I had maybe €3.5k. I decided to 'invest' some of this (you know, put some money into the safe area of sports betting as opposed to the slightly higher variance game of roulette), and put a 400euro bet on Chelsea to beat Sunderland at 1/2 odds. So I have around €3k now. My plan was to just withdraw, go to Dublin, have a good time with my new found wealth, and hopefully run well in the cash games too. So I take a break, so happy that I decided to gamble this morning. But alas, I can't stay away for long, 20mins into my break and I'm back on the computer. Long story short, the 3k goes poof!Sick feeling. For a guy whose biggest MTT cash is $2.5k, to lose 3,000 euro in one day is utterly devastating. But hey, every cloud has a silver lining, right? I say to myself "Ok you stupid ****ing retard, you know how stupid playing this game is, you always say poker isn't gambling and compare it to roulette, well now you've gone and played this ****ing devil game you stupid ****ing hypocrite". OK, now I am confident I will never do it again. So I turn on Sky Sports News and watch the live updates. Chelsea are up 1-0. Looking good, but still pretty tense. This €400 bet is the only money I have that can get me to Dublin without having to touch my 'Stars account. 85th minute, Sunderland hit the bar. Getting tense. Whew, okay, Chelsea pull through and win the game 1-0. That's good enough for me and I have €600 in my account.Okay, so I have two fairly appealing options, I can withdraw the €600 and withdraw a little from PokerStars, and make my way up to Dublin, or I can take the €600 and grind for the next few days, and then withdrawBut as they say in the Carlsberg ad, there's not just A and B, there's usually C. Back to Roulette!! Ok, so I'm just gona play a little. The second I drop under 500 I'll leave and transfer my funds to the poker room. Ooops. Dropped under 500 and didn't leave. But it's okay. I end up spinning it up to €2.1k!! Sweet! So I get chatting to my buddy on MSN, and intend to open the conversation with "yo man, your not gona believe the sickness of this, I fuked up, but it's okay, I learnt my mistake". As I exchange the usual "hey", "hi", "hows it goin", "good", "yo man, your not gon.....", catastrophy strikes. I somehow lose the 2.1k in like 3mins. So I'm screwed basically. Only way out of it is to withdraw from 'Stars. Shit.OK, so back to tonight. The game kicks off. Chelsea get two corners inside 12minutes. Looking good on one front anyways. 43mins and Dirk Kuyt scores for Liverpool. Crap. So no 2k pay off for me. Oh well, still three bets that are looking possible. Second half kicks off. Chelsea have got over 4 corners. OK, 70euro min guarenteed. The game continues and there are chances for both sides. As the final whistle draws nearer and nearer, I am half hoping Liverpool score a 2nd, just so I can win my bet (total disoyalty on my part). 90 minutes is up. The 4th official shows 4 minutes of injury time. Okay, there is still hope. If Terry could just score a header from a corner I'd be in heaven. 91st, 92nd, 93rd minute pass. It's not looking good. Chelsea are playing long balls and don't look like threatening Liverpool's defence. The play in the final third of the pitch is not too spectacular. Then, the clock strikes 94:00. Kalou has the ball on the left wing. He sends it into the box. Nicolas Anelka is waiting to pounce. John Arne Riise gets in a position to make contact. He has to do something, otherwise it's surely a goal. He gets his head to it and tries to head it out of play. No luck. The ball crashes into the roof of the net. Own goal in the last second. So now at this stage, I am at home watching this on my TV, jumping around the place. I won my two biggest bets. My beloved Chelsea are all of a sudden favourites to qualify for the final. Things are looking rosy.So I get 200euro credited to my balance. Sweet. All things going well I could go on a bit of a run with this, you never know what could happen. At this stage, I'm really just high from it all. I hadn't be so excited about a soccer match since Robbie Keane equalised for Ireland against Germany at the '02 World Cup. I was happy. So I play a few hands of black jack. I win a few, I lose few, I'm done to €180. Okay, no big deal, still enough left to take the poker room if I want. Then I play a few larger hands. They don't go so well. Before I know it, I'm down to €50. Gross. I plan on taking this 50 and just putting it all into one SNG and see where I end up. But before I transfer it to my poker account, I stop off at the roulette wheel. I had €51.47 or something, so I put a quid on 12. No luck. One thing leads to another and again I try to reinact my run of 6 weeks previous. I pus €25 on red and make a few other small bets. No luck. So I'm down to 17 and that happy, glorious, high feeling I had just a few minutes was gone. I was sick with myself again. €17, surely I can' do anything with this. I take it back to Blackjack and play some hands, really small stakes (like a euro a hand). This is the stage where you know your ****ed, and you bet really small because you know that even though your ****ed, the longer you can go before going absolutely bust, then the longer you'll have that tiny glimmer of hope. So I get up to like €21 after playing a hand or 2 and leave. Next step.Transfer €21.46 from sportsbook to pokerroom.Finally. So I get about $33 for my €21. Of course I put it all into a 6handed turbo SNG. I do well there and finish 2nd for $55.Where next? The $55 10handed SNG of course! So I play this 10handed STT and the standard of play is much higher than in the first one (the play in the first was absolutely ridiculous, the worst I've seen ever probably). Nonetheless, I do well and manage to win 1st place for $250!! Very nice!!So a BR of $250. That's cool and all, but if I had just stopped after the sports win, I'd still have more than I have now (the classic gamblers mentality).A 6-man $215 turbo SNG is filling up with 4 people reg'd. I sharkscope 3 of them I think and see that one of them is a fish. That's enough to convince me to register.Although it may seem like I am on tilt here, I am actually playing quite well. I hadn't played in a while so my patience was good, and I was so sick of the table games where I always lose, winning at poker was a nice change. So the $215 SNG kicks off. A few guys get knocked out early, and before I know it I'm heads up at 100-200 with a 1600 stack (1500 starting stack). Second place is like $360 and I'm quite happy if I finish with that as my balance. But still, I wasn't gona go down without a fight! I double up early and then the legendary hand that is 67 (my favourite tournament hand). I call a small raise on the BB and flop the joint (as you do). I check call the 4h5h8d flop. The turn is the 4d. I check raise all in. He conveniantly calls drawing dead with AK, one heart (even though he was getting good odds, it was still a clear lay down with the AK). So I'm rolling. I'm chip leader, I have a real possibility at winning the $800 or so first prize, things are good again. Then he doubles up. Then he doubles up again and he's slightly ahead in chips. OK, no need to panic. Your still ok with $360 IF you don't win, but still, your gona win, right? Right. OK, so I steal a higher % of the time than him and grind him down again to a 2-1 chip lead in my favour. I grind him down even more (if memory serves) before dealing the knock out blow. I win. 800 bones in my account. Cool.Of course that's not enough for me. I need more action.I see a 6-man $215 super-turbo (blinds go up ridiculously fast, every 90secs or something). I sharkscope the players and see 2 fish, one shark, a winning player 'on tilt', and a winning player with a -ROI. Easily enough for me to justify jumping in this craps shoot! So I take my seat and realise is really is a super turbo. But still, I was more experienced and frankly a better player than most of the others, so I was happy. I got unlucky to finish 2nd, but still I collected my $150 profit without any complaints. Right now, my balances stands at $1,020.08.Overall, quite a satisfactory night.I hope you enjoy the above read and hopefully it will entertain you some bit and give you a glimpse into the sick life that I lead. I hope to never play table games again as they are the most retarded things ever. Also, as you can see, I have no BRM and I am a total nut job, not really anything new discovered there. Also, I'm not gona read over it now and correct spelling/grammar, so just get through it. I'll probs correct it tomorrow. So read away and hopefully you like it!Play well FCP!

Stop being stupid.Don't you hate that sick empty feeling in your chest after you lose all your money because you were an idiot? I've felt it before and I never want to feel it again. I don't understand how some people can do it over and over and over.

interesting story. If I were you I'd cash out but it seems like you care more about the rush and enjoyment so whatever works.

Actually, I'll give you 2 more value bets, imo.John Higgins to win the World Snooker Championships @ 10-1 (he was 14, but still good)... and Graeme Dott @ 120-1 (ridiculous odds, considering he was World Champion and runner-up consecutively 2/3 years ago)

Yeah the game yesterday was pretty brutal. We went to the pub to watch the game with pockets full of €2 coins and pints full of beer. We were betting on everything that could possibly happen in the game. Over unders on time before something happens or if the next faul will be a legit tackle or a shwalbe. Everything, only noone predicted the second goal would be an own goal. But one question. Can you explain why you would bet on this game for a decent amount of money for any other purpose than to support your team. I mean the teams were very close in competence and you are making clear in your post that you were going for the money. Why not take an easy bet to make money like a... like...erm... oh yeah... DON'T GAMBLE ON SPORTS IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE FUNDS.Nice story tho.Jan
