The restaurant is in the Market Village shopping centre which is an all Chinese Mall in Markham.
Living in Toronto half the city is Non-White and in Markham I think it's about 65% so it's not uncommon to be the minority as a White person in a lot of situations. I remember more than a few times in the Charity Casino days in Toronto being the only White person playing poker out of the 33 seated at the 3 poker tables that were allowed. ( we play 11 handed holdem up here a lot of the time )

I could see crispy being nice. The ones I tried were very soggy...and pretty gross.

A friend of mine is from Hong Kong and he delights in telling us what those gold-embossed characters on Chinese menus say. They're not just decorative. According to him, they say "foreigner's menu," and the one he gets handed says "Chinese menu." The characters that we think say "house salad" or "tossed salad" say "raw American vegetables," he says. I can definitely confirm that he often gets a different menu than us.

I can attest ....Certain part of Toronto, you are a huge minority...
Pacific Mall and Chinatown.....95% Chinese
Certain parts of toronto like south scarborough or parts of Brampton, white people are scarce..
Then you go to Whitby and especially in Brooklin, its whiter than you can imagine...

My previous job, i worked in Brampton for 7 years in the media. I'm now in Port Perry, which is 15 minutes north of Brooklin.
As you can imagine, my extensive knowledge of South Asian customs and holidays really isn't much help to me anymore.
