i don't have the hand history, sorry (it was on pacific poker).four limpers, SB completes, i raise with A-10 offsuit (i know the pre-flop hand chart says not to, but it also says not to raise A-J offsuit from the big blind, and SSHE clearly advocates raising that out of the big blind several times... was raising here correct??).anyway, i told myself not to go crazy if i missed the flop. there's no fold equity in a six-way pot, and you're out of position (if i bet out on the flop and get two callers and the turn doesn't help, what do i do? etc.). so the flop came Q-10-x, and i checked, intending to call one bet to see if i could improve on the turn. however, it got checked around, so i figured nobody had a queen (except possibly the SB who was planning to checkraise or just check-call).well, the turn came another 10, putting two spades on the board (i had no spade). SB checked, i bet, and got two or three callers. the river came a blank spade, and i bet out, and only one person called. that caller took it down with a king-high flush.i'm wondering:1. was the pre-flop raise correct?2. was my flop check correct? or should i have continued with aggression and bet out? i think i'm overaggressive at times, so i told myself not to bet out if i didn't have top pair or better. remember, there are five opponents and i'm out of position...3. was my river bet correct?this seems like a standard hand, but i've been questioning my play a lot recently. just looking for those answers to see if they match mine.thanks, aseem

Raising preflop is with A-10o is probably debatable, but I like it.Absolutely bet the flop. You have a nice piece of it.Bet again on the turn...no one will put you on a 10Flushes happen :-/EDIT: Yeah, you have to bet the river also.
Last night I stayed up late playing poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died.

i totally don't care about losing the pot, i'm just wondering if i played it right (specifically those three questions). and you didn't address the river. :-) thanks,aseemp.s. by the way, say you bet the flop, and the person immediately to your left raises. you have to call here, of course, but being out of position, isn't betting here almost chip spewing??

I don't like the preflop raise. The flop check sucks. There is a prefect example of this in SSHE. Look in the turn play quizes. Lead the flop, turn, and river.

While I think the per-flop raise is debatable, the comment above is what bothered me the most. When it comes to you on the flop, you have 4 options:1) bet out2) check/raise3) check/fold4) check/callOption 4, checking and calling, is the worst option of the four. While it did get checked around, you original intent was a very bad move. If you had told me you planned to check raise, I would be a little more understanding. I dont like the idea of trying to improve with just a pair. You basically stating you wanted to draw to 5 outs. Thats only one more out than an inside straight draw (although you do actually have a hand). And what were you planning to do if you didnt improve on the turn?Considering you raised before the flop, your best option is to bet and see how other players react. If you continued to show strength, you might be able to force out a Q with a weak kicker.

The preflop raise is okay. Bet the flop. Bet the turn. Bet the river. If he's got the flush, he's got the flush.
