I don't raise from UTG preflop with this hand, but I don't hate a raise since we're 5-handed. I like the flop bet. When he just calls, what can he be calling with? I think a set definitely raises as there are a brazillion potential draws, so he must be on some type of draw himself, probably a straight draw, maybe a worse club draw, perhaps two pair. I think a turn bet is good, 3/4 pot, to chase out straight-only draws that missed. If you get repotted, you can easily give it up.In short, bet the turn.

If you bet the turn and get called, I assume you'd just check-fold the river?I got hurt a couple of times by this situation tonight. I raise PF, get called, CB the flop with a mediocre hand, get called, and then shut down when I don't improve on the turn. Perhaps I'm backing off a bit too easily. The thing is, at these stakes the play tends to be very passive. People don't bet hands on the flop and they like to call down rather than raise (at least until the river).

I don't think the turn is scary enough to kick our villain off a big draw, so I'm not sure I love betting the turn. I bluff the river at least 40% of the time though. I also don't raise this hand UTG preflop like ever.

Yes. That has nothing to do with the turn though.We probably still have the best hand, and we can then win a bigger pot on the river if we make our flush.By checking the turn we lose control and can often face a problem on the river. We play a smaller pot and lose it more often.
