History so far:
First hand, I was UTG. They asked me if I wanted to post. I asked if I could post-straddle. No one knew the answer, so they let me. I flopped top pair with A2 and won. Second hand, I flopped two pair with 9-2 on the BB in a limped pot and won. Third hand, I flopped two pair with 9-6 on a JJ9 board and called a pretty big bluff on the river and won. Fourth hand, I called a raise with 45hh and delayed my semi-bluff until the turn and doubled up a guy who turned two pair.
Ooooookay, when I get back to UTG, I have about 240 and limp with KQcc.
Folds to an older gentleman who raises to 12. He has me covered. We take the flop heads up:
KT2r
Check-check
Turn:
4
I bet 20. He called.
River:
5 (no flush possible)
I bet 40. He raised 100 more. WHAT DO I DO!?

Old guy raised, then check-checked, called a bet, then raised a bet? ?
Most old men have your nuts in a sling here.
Go ahead and fold.

I know you're debating between call and shove, so definitely call becuase it's closer to folding, which is the best option of all.

Slower.
99 out of every 100 old men are dying to have you bet their hand for them.
Which is cool, because you can also fold them off a ton of hands.
Except for aces.
If you think your old man has an ace, don't try to make him lay it down.
He just won't.

This guy hadn't done anything up until this point and was old and all that so I assumed he was tight. He had a lot of money in front of him. After he raised, I tried to get him to talk, but he stared off to the side and was non-responsive.

Relax. As is the usual custom, the styles take a while to get here to the Midwest. I'm a year ahead of the crowd here by being two months behind.

I see no reason not to bet the river after the old man checked the flop and then elected to flat the turn. His line doesn't exactly look strong and being that it's $1/$2 NL you might as well value bet your hands instead of hoping your opponent bets them for you.

ya but Jay also had a hand where he is like so I raise it one off the button with 69h and I tell myself if i hit anything I am shipping it in on any flop. Well I hit a gutter and bd flush draw so I ship it and get three calls, but it runs out hearts!!!
so he can bet marginal on the river

Also, I value bet the river because he likely calls JJ or QQ.

Sir, it was only "one off the button" if UTG is one off the button.

I agree with this. I also like the bet. When he raises, it's folding time unless you've seen him do something tricky before.

LOL. Does anyone else appreciate this as much as I do? I mean, it's like there's a whole new precedent for winning at poker?
Question: "Can I do this?"
Answer: "Well, we don't know what that is ..." (random pause)
Response: "Ok, let me do it then."
Answer: "Ok, I guess."
