Mid Tourney And Short Stacked

Alright it was mid tourney just wanted to see what anyone thought of this play..8 ppl at the table blinds are 400-800 stacks arent real deep due to structure of tourney...I have a lil less than average with about 3950...everyone folds to guy that is 2 off the button with about 3600 in his stack and he limps(he has been doing this all day with any suited cards and weak aces) co and button fold sb completes(he has both of us covered by about 2300...he likes to see cheap flops from sb with small pairs and suited cards but big hands he raises)...I look down at Q9s and move in trying to p/u the 1600 in the pot....2 off the button and sb blind instacall which scared the heck out of me....2 off button shows A6o and sb shows 77 and I win when a queen hits the flop....They both call me a donkey I say thank you....Was this a bad play on my part or like in my opinion did they make a mistake by not raising pf

I'd say if you were pretty sure you had a solid read on these guys I don't see a problem with your play at all. Fast structured tournies force you to make moves and this looked like a good spot to get it in. The fact that both these guys limped 2offButton having 4 1/2 BBs and the "big" stack having a little over 7 BBs then calling you a dnky is pretty comical. I mean if you are first to enter an unopened pot with pocket 7s with a short stack what's your move? I'll tell you this much you won't see me limp in.........lol

You can't be a donkey if you pushed with that and they called. That's called an aggressive play. Had you called all-in with those cards, I would have called you a donkey.

you only had 5 BB... people need to expect a push with just about anything with that hand...and, they need to understand they had 77 and A-6. Even if you limped in you still win the pot.

I wouldnt call your play great, but theirs is worse. If you stove it against any suited, any pair, any Ace and any Broadway for first guy and top 30% for the other guy youre less than 30% to win the hand. On the actual hands youre around 25% to win. so, it comes down to a question of how much fold equity you think you have. Since we werent at the table thats hard to say, but IF you thought there was much fold equity it was obviously a mis-read. Misreads happen, and people get lucky....more than once a tourney for the winner. BFD.

With a hand as weak as Q6s most people will wait for first in vigorish. Limping/minraising has become more common as a counter for that...but usually from bigger stacks!

you are not playing it bad. I think it's ok to make a move with Q9s in some situations (if your opponents are passive, doesn't really care about pot odds etc). Your opponents on the other hand played as bad as they could IMO.
