ajs510 122
Just found this video of my favorite sports moment of all time, wanted to share it with you guys. It's play by play done by Curt Chaplin, talking into a tape recorder for possible rebroadcast on the ABC Radio Network. The audio is synch'd up to the game footage and really brings you right into the moment. Maybe I'm just a sucker for emotional hockey moments, but I had chills the whole way through the ten minute video, it's amazing how an event that happened just over 28 years ago, that you've seen dozens upon dozens of times before, can still affect you that way. Anyway, here's the video. Enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fztlLwgSFCgAnd of course, you can't talk about the Miracle on Ice without listening to Al Michaels christen it as such... ajs510 122
Where was Canada for this debacle?Canada defeated the teams from The Netherlands (10-1), Poland (5-1) and Japan (6-0) but lost to Finland (4-3) and USSR (6-4) to fall out of the medal round (Finland got in with the same record by virtue of their earlier win over Canada). They went on to lose the 5th place game to Czechoslovakia 6-1, while Finland went on to the gold medal game against the US.I think this is an accurate roster from that year, as you can see, not too much to write home about (not that the US players were overly remarkable outside of that two week stretch either). Other than Glenn Anderson and Paul Maclean, none of Team Canada '80 really made much of an impact on the NHL. I guess it was just an uncharacteristic downperiod for amateur hockey in Canada. http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/leagues...0004901980.html

digitalmonkey 929
I remember cheering for the USA. Obviously it was before I hated them.
Zach6668 513
I would have cheered for the USA over the USSR.

Finland did not advance to the Gold medal game. It was all a round robin between USSR, Finland, USA and Sweden. Since the USA played Sweden and the USSR played Finland in the preliminary round, those results counted toward the round robin medal round. When the USA played Finland, it was just the last game of the 3 game round robin.
