Middle Set Pot Raised On River

He had gotten a big stack by making a few bluffs and somehow turning some less than stellar hands into winners. Myself and MP started with full stacks and were just picking off the donky small buy ins of $3 or so easily. They were pushing very marginal hands into the big stacks hoping to double up. It was a great thing. Since I had position on MP I rarely raised him preflop because he had been making moves at pots and I was hoping to get a solid piece of something and stack him. Flop: ($1.50) 7, J, K(5 players)SB checks, BB checks, UTG checks, MP bets $1.45, Hero raises to $5.8, SB folds, BB folds, UTG folds, MP calls $4.35.Turn: ($13.10) 6(2 players)MP checks, Hero checks.This is where I think I made my mistake by checking. He was definitely a player who would check over set of kings to me in this spot. This check could also have been some sort of wrap draw. I was wanting to play a little safe since I had position since I figured he would pot almost any river. He made that move twice before on me to move me off of a board that rivered a danger card. I also didn't want to stack off 3 buyins worth in a single hand with only middle set.River: ($13.10) 9(2 players)MP bets $12.45, Hero folds.Final Pot: $13.10Really I'm only losing to QT/8T and the set of K's. I know the turn check was bad. I said that in my original post. I have been running pretty bad the last 3 weeks so I know I didn't play the hand as aggressively as I should have. Does anyone check this turn to add some deception? Like I said I knew he was going to pot river pretty much regardless of what peels off because he had done it twice before when we were heads up. I didn't think I was going to lose any profit on the hand by checking because of his river pot. I felt like I was trying to play the villian a different way and ended up staring at the disaster river.

No, no one checks this turn for "deception". The words "deception" and "PokerStars Pot-Limit Omaha High, $0.10 BB (5 handed)" don't need to be in the same sentence. When you raise the pot on the flop and he flat calls, there's a BIG chance you have the best hand and he's chasing you. Make him pay to do so. There are a shitload of bad cards for you on this river. Charge him the max to get there. The only way you'll do well by "knowing he was going to pot river regardless" is by calling him down and snapping him off with weaker holdings. Letting him see a free river then folding on a scare card to a shove you think he would have made on ANY river is not the way to play these opponents. At this level, just value bet the shit out of them. They'll call (incorrectly) and chase you all day long. No need to get too tricky.
