ok... 5 handed game... EDIT!!!!... Sorry its a NL tourney and the structer is bad... Im getting doulbe my money for 5th and 15X for 1st... some backroom mafia shit here in NYC... but I was bored and I only play in person and the $100 NL tourney is something I cant avoid...I am in UTG with 88...blinds are 1000-2000...I have about 36000... I make it 7k... just to see if I can win it there or to see really how strong everyone else is...I get a call and a raise to1500k total from the BB....I think and decide in my position with my stack in 4th... I will call and move in in a nonthreatening flop... If I see any paint im out... but at that point with what I had invested I could have a huge chance at a win of the whole thing if he misses his hand...I know this is wrong... but the raiser was the chip leader and had won the last 3-4 hands without showing...I call... the other player just calls too... I feel he has pockets...maybe 99 or something close to me...possible AK... but hes not happy I feel...Flop comes 2-8-10...being first... I dont want a draw... I pitch in half my stack... I get a raise allin from the guy in the middle... and BB chucks it away )AQ as he showed after)What to do?????I put him on an over pair at that point... I thought I was wrong and he was on JJ or QQ and was worried about all the action.. then moved with the bad board... then I thought that 10-10 was a definite possibilty... then as I thought about all of his body language and his distain, demeanor, his immeadiate allin... and the way he had played all night... I decided that he could have as bad as AK...either way I thought I made a mistake getting myself into this situation but felt that a fold was worse... had had me covered barely and could assume I would fold to that without a monster... I wanted the win and I cant get played out of second set with a rainbow board and only a straight Draw possible...being my read on the table... and everything else... Can I let that go??? If I do I can never hope to take down a tournament... especially if I do that 5 handed... Opinions??PS... I clearly realize that my mistake got me there... I thought with the raise I would only get a call or an allin... allin I fold and a call and I see If I can move... but with the raise I thought it was worth the chips to see if it was a nonthreatening board to move in on... or I catch my set...Doesnt it always seem the most money gets lost on a flopped set....

You got almost the exact flop you were looking for playing your 8's like that UTG (not saying it was wrong though). I cannot fathom folding this myself. I would have either checked the flop (hoping to raise, but I hardly ever do that), or pushed it all-in right then and there and took my chances.

Agreed. As soon as you see that 8 hit the board you push all of your chips as far into the pot as possible, stand up and start singing "I Feel Good." J/KFrom your post, I'm guessing that he had the 10's, but when there's only one reasonable hand that could have you beat (pocket 10's) I don't see how you can even consider dropping those 8's

If you're not going to call there, exactly what was the point of playing 8-8? Thats pretty much all you can ask for

Thanks guys...I guess its no suprise he had the 10's or I wouldnt have posted...I guess the reason it got me second guessing was because the 10-10 was a hand that I had considered him for originally... and decided that the chance that I had the best of it was too great to fold there... thanks...
