Home game last night, 7 handed. Game consists of mainly beginners but villain is very good and can be tricky. A lot of history between hero and villain, have played a lot together! Its pretty early on. BB is 20. Villain's stack is about 1700, Hero has 2200ish.

Hero dealt QQ

UTG limps, UTG +1 limps, MP limps, Hero limps, button limps, sb completes, BB raises to 200, 3 folds, Hero raises to 700, 2 folds, BB moves all in for 1000 more, Hero calls

Normally I don't play big pairs like this but I got the impression that Villain was itching to raise so I just limped in with everyone else, particularly as the players are mainly stations I felt there was a good chance if BB raised then there would be a couple of callers so more dead money in the pot before I re raise. As villain is quite tricky he could be trying to pick up the dead money so his range is pretty wide, medium pairs upwards and AK to A10 suited. My re raise looks a bit on the small side but I wanted villain to think I was trying to put a move on him so I could fold if he moved in on me.

All thoughts appreciated.

limp/reraising isn't playing tricky, it's losing value.

That said, this is live and if you have some sort of 110% certain read that the BB is going to raise light then I guess this is not awful.

Seems like wishful thinking if you ask me.

If villain wakes up with KK or AA, it costs more to find this out. Plus, as implied above, there's a chance your expected raiser never raises, and now you're stuck in a big multiway pot hoping you spike a set or that you've got a good overpair.

Don't fall into Fancy Play Syndrome. Open with a raise with QQ and put the onus on your opponents to call or reraise.

No one reading a forum post can know villain as well as you do. You read him perfectly(at least regarding his "squeeze raise) and you got what you wanted. the ony issue is whether the size of his raise gives you a read that hes got a monster, if it doesnt, well played.

I know this is not the optimal way to play queens, but i felt this was the best way (with the read on villain) to maximise the amount of money I can win with this hand. If the read was wrong, villain just checks and the flop sucks then I can let it go but I was thought it was a good spot to get creative.

The reason it's not a good play here is because, to figure out if villain has a better hand, you basically have to stack off to find out. If villain wakes up with a better hand as played, you're gone. This may be a good play vs villain in some instances, but I don't see it being a good play here with us so relatively short.

With this many limpers youre pretty much stacking off no matter what you do. The effective stacks are only 1700.

That's a good point. As played, then, follow your read and get villain's money in there.
