BigDMcGee 3,367
So I'm talking to a friend of mine on the phone, and his fuking parrot is just screaming the whole time in the back ground. It's this obnoxious bird, that I guess is beautiful, but screetches all the time, or at least any time I'm talking to him on the phone... I don't get the whole bird thing. They stink.. they stink less if you change their bird shit more, but they still stink and you are perpetually cleaning bird sht. they are obnoxiously loud, and after years of owning them, they will still bite your finger off at a moments notice if you get it anywhere near their god forsaken beaks. I guess I could understand having a smaller bird, that has maybe a soft, quiet churp, but why anyone would get a loud, obnoxious parrot or macaw, or any other of the bigger bird pets, I'll never no. Can someone explain this whole bird thing to me, perhaps a bird owner, and explain the appeal?

Nikki_N 17
I've had parakeets. I find they are more like decoration. It's not like they play with you. When I was a kid we had cockateils. Those birds are mean mofos. They hiss and bite.I got a parakeet for the kids a couple of years ago, and through a series of stupid moves on my part, I let it escape. The big birds that talk are cool, but messy. The big ones live a really long time, from what I understand. They can live 80 years or something. That's a long term pet commitment. HollywoodAFD 0
Same thing for a dog for most people. Sure he's a cute puppy with that cute puppy breath. Then he becomes a eating/shitting machine that chews everything. So he gets put in the backyard where he runs around in circles cutting paths in the yard and barking at everything under the sun. When you wont let him in the house...he stares at the back door and whines for ****ing ever while I'm upstairs trying to play poker...I have to listen to this bastard in my neighbors yard...yelping over and over and over and over and over....for friggin HOURS and HOURS and HOURS. They act like they dont hear him...but how could they not hear him. I hear him as soon as I turn on my friggin street!sorry... needed to vent.Atleast a bird doesn't bother other people.(I gotta say...I didn't feel too bad for the guy who said his dog was "murdered" on here either... If that was a yelping dog)Back to my cave now.
Loismustdie 0
Ummm, I have refused second dates based on my hatred for birds. I don't get it either. It makes no sense to me.

Your neighbors need to do something about changing their dog's housing situation. Ours howls if she has to stay out overnight. We just don't do that anymore. When we are gone, the neighbors come over and take her for walks (great neighbors, btw, we are very fortunate) and then let her back in the house.

Nikki_N 17
Good looking dog. I bet when she howls it could wake the dead. She sounds like a wolf when she howls. It's pretty cool actually. I just wouldn't want to listen to it all night long. We got her when she was somewhere between age 2 and 4 (according to the vet). She was a stray (huskies will run away from home and go so far they are hopelessly lost-we never could find her owner). A friend of mine found her but didn't have the room to keep her. She's a good dog.

A way to prove, to themselves, their control over an uncertain world and to say "HAHA fuck you nature!"

Loismustdie 0
Me, too, actually. And it was her parents that had the damned birds, but she said she was going to get some. Mine hatred goes back many years, back to the days when I was like 4 or 5 and my mom used to take me to the mall, and this pet shop had this huge macaw that she was just fascinated by, and would make me stand there and watch this bird as tall as me scream bloody murder and chew on it's cage with hunger unmatched by any vampire. I was ****ing terrified, completely traumatized to this day.

Bird is good.... in my mouth. Sort of like **** in yours.
