PokerStars 0.25/0.50 Hold'em (9 handed) Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

Preflop: Hero is UTG+1 with 3, 3.
1 fold, Hero calls, 5 folds, SB completes, BB checks.

Flop: (3 SB) 5, 5, T (3 players)
SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets, SB calls, BB folds.

Turn: (2.50 BB) A (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets, SB calls.

River: (4.50 BB) 8 (2 players)
SB checks, Hero checks.

Final Pot: 4.50 BB

Villain is 52/7/1.06 after 81 hands.

I limped because table has been pretty loose and will often be multi-way unraised. Obviously I'm set-mining, but when it's 3-handed and the board pairs on the flop I'm good here often enough to bet the flop and turn right? Should I bet the river for value?

I think you played this very well.

I just started reading about how to play pocket pairs HU in the book Zach suggested to me and the post flop part of the suggestion matches this exactly.

Bet the flop and turn. Ditch the hand if there's any action back at you. We're trying to get to a showdown quickly and cheaply.

Well played, imho.

Pf is iffy, but it depends on the table. I'd fold this a lot.

Flop bet is good, cuz we're always ahead when they check to us.

Turn bet is fine, simply as a way to get to sd easily.

Yeah, I normally fold 66-22 in this position, but the table had been loose enough to limp. They just decided not to this hand. icon_confused.gif

Hypothetical:

Say either SB or BB bet the flop and the other folds, should I raise or fold? It's never a call right? My hand is way too vulnerable not to either protect it or let it go.

I'd play the hand the same too...but you don't think a 5 checks the flop to us perhaps???

the easiest way to get to showdown is to check, then check behind or call a bet on the river. would cost the same or less and we'd have no chance of getting raised.

we also wouldn't protect our hand against overs or a flush draw, which is why we should bet.
but it doesnt get us to showdown easier as he could c/r (and then we fold)
or he could call the bet and donk the river (i think i'd have to call out of curiosity but id assume we were beat)

But if we get raised, it's not like we can call down. We put one bet into this pot, that's it.

You can do the check turn/call river line, but it doesn't get value from missed draws every time, like a turn bet.

no i agree we bet the turn and check behind on the river, given the chance

its just not the easiest way to get to showdown

easiest does not always mean best tongue.gif

no i understand. I'm just debating semantics.
if we bet/fold, we dont get to see a showdown, and therefore it's not the easiest way to get to one.
