I'm a semi-decent omaha hi player, but undoubtedly I just don't soak up hi/lo as well. How do I play powerful starting high hands like K-K-Q-Q double suited? Do these type of hands become unplayable and pre-flop folds because they have no low potential? And what about J-10-9-8 and of the like? Such a hand is awesome in PLO hi, but what about hi/lo?As always, any help is appreciated.

Play the former as you would a low/mid pocket pair in holdem. See the flop cheap, get the hell out if it doesn't hit.JT98 is virtually worthless in O8. Gets the bad end of high straights and splits low straights with a low hand. Having 3/5 or 4/5 of Broadway is usually worth a look.

Check out this post in the strat forum for a discussion of KK74 double-suited: http://www.fullconta...pic.php?t=11409I originally felt that the hand would be playable in any relatively loose/passive limit H/L game, but the thread changed my mind; now I think the game would have to be EXTREMELY loose passive to play it.KKQQ double-suited is obviously a stronger hand; I would wager that it's playable, depending on position and the nature of the game, but it's probably less than half as strong as it is in Omaha Hi (both because it's usually only going to take half the pot if it wins and because aces are more likely to get played in H/L, which hurts your flush draws).
Then you go to da box for 2 minutes by yourself, you feel shame... then you get free.

I'm also thinking that a hand like KKQQ would be stronger in PL O8 than in limit, because if you flop top set, you can protect it (whereas in limit, you just have to cross your fingers that it will hold up or improve to kings full).I could be wrong there, but that's what I'm thinking. The other side of the coin would be that the reverse implied odds if you make the 2nd nut flush could be much higher in PL if you're not careful.

I did check that out when that thread was first created actually, but K-K-Q-Q double suited is considerably different from K-K-7-4 double suited in my mind. The first is only good for highs, but has 4 outs to a high set while the latter only has two and a virtually useless low, so the only cards of importance are really the kings. I can see why K-K-7-4 would be unplayable, but I was just curious about very strong high hands like K-K-Q-Q.Thanks guys for your help.

KKxxcall these for minimum bet in position, see a perfect flop(such as K 9 4), or fold on the flop. Don't play for flushes.....
