I recently had the chance to participate in a NL tourney at an Indian Casino. The entry was $20, with $10 re-buys and a $10 add on after the first hour. They gave each player one $500 chip and five $100 chips. The blinds started at $100/$100, increasing every 15 minutes to: 100/200 200/400 300/500 500/1000With no chips to work with, and someone all-in pre-flop almost every hand, it was worse that a free roll on the internet.Has anyone else been involved in a tourney like this? I will never play in that type of tourney at that casino again!!!

Be sure to ask what the structure is next time. That was a f'n crap-shoot!! Everyone started off short-stacked. I've never seen anything like it. I played in some bad ones too. $2,000 in chips with blinds at $50/$100; 15 minute levels...Some just suck, bro. Gotta make sure which ones do and which dont.

Whats the structure? Doesn't matter if it is at a casino or in a buddy's home game. "whats the structure" is the first question I ask. If I don't like the answer I don't play(poorly set up tournies is a pet peeve of mine because the luck factor is already increased in tournaments so unless the structure is well thought out you might as well play showdown). The example you provided is pretty gross but in low limit rebuy tournaments you will see that kind of structure. i.e I have played in one that was 500chips start with 25-50 blinds which went up every 15mins. Thats not as bad as yours but its still a crap shoot.

Lots of casinos do that b/c it costs a lot for them to pay dealers and to give up the tables/space to support a tourney. It lets them advertise "Hey we have poker tournaments!!!". Sucks for players but it's smart for business.

yea where I play sometimes they have 135 dollar tournaments (sit n gos) onlyyou start with 2000 chips and blinds at 100/200, blinds go up every 10 min100/200200/400300/600400/800it's horrible, I can say I've played about 10 times and broken even in general, once blinds are 200/400 and you haven't played a hand yet, once you throw in a raise you're pot commited, yes tourneys like this are mostly luck
