call two cold on the river?

Recommended Posts

the table is fairly aggressive, and normally it's tight (though this hand was fairly loose). i have no read on the players, but my guess is that they're slightly tricky and fairly aggressive.what's your move on the river??i have A :club: 10 :D in the cutoff (i know SSHE says to raise, but i couldn't bring myself to do it on this tight/aggressive table... read my other post about adapting to tight/aggressive tables... was not raising pre-flop a mistake?).ANTES/BLINDS2quat4 posts blind ($0.50), epi316 posts blind ($1).PRE-FLOPDEFENONE calls $1, harryedw folds, Beavis23 folds, jdo201 calls $1, shakie folds, akishoreFCP calls $1, soccerjoe8 folds, 2quat4 calls $0.50, epi316 checks.(pot = $5)FLOP [board cards 8 :spade: ,A :spade: ,4 :spade: ]2quat4 bets $1, epi316 folds, DEFENONE calls $1, jdo201 folds, akishoreFCP bets $2, 2quat4 calls $1, DEFENONE calls $1.(pot = $11)TURN [board cards 8 :spade: ,A :spade: ,4 :spade: ,4 :club: ]2quat4 checks, DEFENONE bets $2, akishoreFCP calls $2, 2quat4 calls $2.(was calling here weak? i felt this was a good overcall situation--not sure if i have the bettor beat, plus it's possible that i'm just on a draw here for the flush. should i have raised to maybe clean up some outs--especially flush outs in the possible case that he folds a jack-high or queen-high flush draw? how about to make him fold something like A-2 to allow myself to win the whole pot if the river brings another ace? remember about the bettor though--he suddenly wakes up, and i don't know if i have him beat.)(pot = $17)RIVER [board cards 8 :spade: ,A :spade: ,4 :spade: ,4 :club: ,J  ]2quat4 bets $2, DEFENONE bets $4, akishoreFCP _____, ...(pot = $23)aseem

folds.flush possibility(doubt anyone hit it though), paired board.Looks like he limped in UTG with AJo.

50/50 on this one. Depends on your reads of the DEF guy - does he play 54 or similar holdings from UTG (trip 4's) or would he slow play a flush until the turn (fairly likely). Or, conversely, would he make the very smart move of raising a weak ace on the river now that he knows he gets kicker protection if yours is not higher than a jack? If he did the latter, and got you to fold what would've been a split, then solid move! I may just make a crying call here. Also - I think a raise on the turn may have helped you figure out his hand better. If it's three bet, you could fold the river unimproved; if not, you may get a cheap showdown anyway.

i'm thinking the bettor had a flush that was trying to be sneaky and bet the turn. no clue what the SB had...could be a variety of hands. I say fold, you're beat much more often than you're splitting imo.

hmm, okay. i folded and A-6 took the pot (it would have been a split). it took me a while to hit the fold button--i really felt that the raise made sense if villian had an ace (he could get a split/better ace to fold, maybe even a two-pair to fold). so general consensus is that it's a fold?i actually think this was a call. not trying to be results-based, but i think you have to recognize these types of situations in aggressive games, where you might have the best (or split best) hand.still not sure...aseem

Just as I guessed in my earlier post at 6 AM (does anyone else play best at that time?) . You have to call when you have a reasonably chance of winning in a pot this big - as they say, "its a disaster when you fold the winning hand on the river". Props for the villain's raise , though - it was a great move to prevent the key overcall that wouldve split the pot. Do this next time yourself.

raise preflop, raise turn, and that will never happen on the the river, given the way you hadp layed on the previous streets i think you have to fold here

calling 2 cold with a best case scenario of a split pot seems like a bad play to me and i think you are only splitting this pot at most 20% of the time. calling 4 dollars to get a total pot of 13.50 for a profit of 9.50 on the call isn't enough.

yo definetly can't call the river. Lookj no matter what you think about TAG tables raising PF in position makes this hand much eaiser to play. You gaoin fold equity, can knock out the button and blinds. Raise it PF, your life will be eaiser

Yup. I'm with Keith. Also, the way it played out it's an easy river fold. You're at best getting a split pot and I don't think that's very likely with that much action.ZaraP.S. It's a TAG table and someone limped with A6?
