Canada won their frst game 3-0 over the Czech Republic.Great showing by Jonathan Bernier in the first period. It was also my first time watching Stamkos play. Man, this kid will be good. He obviously has great skills, but I was impressed the most by his hockey sense and him always moving his feet out there. The only thing I hate about this event is the officiating. Many of these hits were in fact legal. Thoughts on the Gillies hit? Was it indeed a charge, or legal?Slovakia's turn tommorow, let's give it to them!

It sure would be nice to have Stamkos and Los Angeles goalies in a fantasy hockey league like the AHL. :club:
I once read on these forums that draft picks in a keeper league like the AHL are overrated. I think Serge wrote that. :D

We have to win the Draft Lottery first. With our Luck we'll lose that to Anaheim.
I think DM means that Stamkos and LA Goalies are both owned by the Gothic. Still, good luck to LA with the lottery. A Kopitar-Stamkos 1-2 punch would sure be awesome to watch.

The refereeing was actually fairly consistent today for international standards. Those types of hits are called consistently. Players should know that high hard hits that are legal back here will be called every time in international play. If you think about it, the IIHF refs have a pretty serious mandate to protect these players, so there's nothing wrong with calling it tighter....

That's a very good point.

Does anyone outside of Canada even care about this tourney or junior hockey for that matter?
Yes, I do and I'm sure Belanger does as well...aside from that I dunno.
I absolutely love this WJC Tournament, I'm currently watching the Czech Republic play Denmark.

Remember about 10 years ago right around the Nagano games the state of international hockey in Canada. They have really turned it around and Canada is the undisputed best country in the world at hockey. 4 in a row is fantastic. Already looking forward to Tavares pwning this tourney next year.
