Qj Against Loose Aggressive Player

Recommended Posts

Im having a really really bad run at the moment, for the last three months or so ive gone from being very profitable in $10/$20 games to losing almost everyhand regardless of how played. So i figured id get back to basics and start back on the low limits till things improve. Big pairs have held up 2 out of 45 dealings. I was thinking it was just a run of bad luck but now im thinking it may be me. So please criticise this hand. Some background info on the villian (BB). Been on the table for about 45 mins or so, they have thrown away maybe 2 or 3 hands pre flop and have been very aggressive in their play. Every flop bet i have made he/she has inst min-raised. Has shown bluff on numerous occasions after everyone has folded. My table image: i like to see a lot of cheapish flops and progress from there.Full Tilt No-Limit Hold'em, $0.10 BB (5 handed) Full-Tilt Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver Cards)UTG ($14)MP ($1.30)Button ($10)Hero ($8.45)BB ($11.45)Preflop: Hero is SB with jc.gif, qd.gif. 1 fold, MP calls $0.10, 1 fold, Hero raises to $0.35, BB calls $0.20, MP calls $0.20.Flop: ($0.95) qh.gif, ad.gif, 5s.gif(3 players)Hero bets $0.5, BB raises to $1, MP folds, Hero calls $0.50.Turn: ($2.95) jh.gif(2 players)Hero checks, BB bets $2.9, Hero raises to $7.15 (All-In), BB calls $4.25.River: ($0) 9s.gif(2 players, 1 all-in)Final Pot: $17.25Discuss

If you're going to raise from the SB, please make a larger raise. You're raising in this spot because the limper is weak and you want to isolate him (I don't *know* that's why you did it, but that's why you should be doing it). You're going to be OOP all hand and you certainly don't want more people coming along. Make it .50 if you're planning on raising there. One of the leaks I've recently unsurfaced in my own game is that I'm playing too many hands from the blinds in general. Basically, your default setting should be to fold everything in the blinds. Don't look for reasons to get into big hands there.

If this was a button raise I'd give you a pole polishing for playing smart, but from the SB, the preflop raise is just dumb.

I think it gives you a certain undeniable charm.

So, to sum up;PF is very bad. If you want to take it down right there (which is something NL players like to do, which I don't quite get yet), then raise a lot more. Not a huge overbet, but big enough that everyone isn't priced in.We should bet more on the flop. 1/2 pot bets suck. Since we did bet so small, and the raise is just a min, we're getting ok odds to peel one off, but probably just fold most of the time. We're looking at an ace like every time.Turn, once we get there, sticking it in is good.

Ordinarily i wouldnt raise pre flop at all, but in this case it was more of a blocking bet as i knew that BB was going to raise any two cards (last time he was BB he raised 7 2 and played it like they were bullets, the time before he did it with 2 3 o/s), however it was still a bad play, i agree there. 1. So if i had just called PF and he had happened to check, how would you play on the flop?2. Given the 99% chance of BB raising if i had just called, i would normally instafold but against this player?I will post the results later.

Don't be mad because you can't get the BB to fold from the SB, like ever, in limit.

Pre-flop is fine.
Preflop is a major, major leak.EDIT: Running to the doctor in a few, will elaborate more when I return.
