I'd seen him at a table the night before and so far he'd seemed like a decent player.I'm on the button with J 10 :spade:UTG limps as do 2 other players in front limp, I limp, SB folds, BB checksPot: $1.359 8 3 :club:BB checks, UTG pots it, 2 other players fold, I raise to $5 total, BB folds, UTG hesitates a little longer than normal and min-raises to $8.65 totalWhat do I do?

You need to decide if this is a set of 3's, 89 or A9.... If you think he just has 9's, then poooosh. Otherwise, just call and hope the board don't pair while giving you the nuts.I wouldn't have popped it to $5 in the first place though because of this exact situation (mess)....

good point, probably call, but the more I think about it the less I like a raise against this player.... you rarely have any fold equity. I change my answer to call.

What do I do?

OBV call and peel calling $3 into a pot of $17+/- and 8 outs to the nuts and two overs. Just a note -- I don't raise the flop because now your only reasonable option now is to call. Calling sort of reveals your hand and limits your action when an obv draw matures, whereas your holding might be better disguised if you had smooth called the flop bet. Anyway. I'm not unreasonably fearful of a paired board here.

Have you ever seen him limp a big pair UTG? That matters.I think obviously you have to call on the flop, but if a Ten or Jack peel and he fires again (or shoves), I'm going to be sick to my stomach. I really think you can't go any further in this hand if he bets the turn with anything but the straight unless he's an idiot.

No I haven't seen him limp a big pair UTG, but I only have about a 10 orbit history with the villain... enough to say I hadn't seen him do anything weird / incredibly out of line yet. This is the first min-raise I've seen him make though.I guess I probably should have asked more about my flop raise since a lot of you don't seem to like it. I'm not sure if that's because I got played back at or not... or if the sizing of the raise was awkward idk... It's pretty standard for *me* to raise a strong nut draw in position. Is it really that bad knowing I should have a decent amount of FE based off of read?
