serge 904 Posted December 6, 2007 Author Share Posted December 6, 2007 Actually you are mistaken here....Even though they are under the cap for this year, the Ducks DO have to make a room as with Niedermayer they are over the cap for NEXT year..Even though Niedermayer likely will not play next year, the Ducks have to move out about $3million in salary...In reality they will still have money to sign Perry etc next year as Niedermayer will retire, however before he comes off suspension they need to make a move..Eklund goes into detail.....http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?post_id=11585So what the Ducks would like to do is trade someone with a high salary for next year ie Schneider for a high priced player that is a UFA next year ie SundinNot suggesting that would be the trade as it wouldnt fit for the Leafs, but just making an example... I would move either of them for nothing, ie: a 5th round pick or something.Beauchemin has been talked about but he makes next to nothing so in any move involving him the Ducks would likely get the other team to take one of the aforementioned Marchant or Schnieder and in return receive a draft pick/prospect that is reasonable for moving a good young defenseman.I would prefer to keep Sean O'Donnell as he also makes next to nothing and is a low maintainence, hard nosed, defensive defenseman who plays well with Pronger.I'm hoping Burke can "convince" Phoenix to take Marchant for free....seeing as how Anaheim already gave them indirect compensation. If you can kill 2 birds with one stone, so be it, but I'm sure it wouldn't factor into the initial decision. Of course, if Lowe was in this position...it would be tempting. With the third of the season gone, there's about a third of his salary against the cap... With my non-scientific calculations, he'll count for 4,4 M$ if he comes back today, with 64 days into the season, so he'll probably wait a little more before being officially back on the roster...Though according to nhlnumbers.com they have 6.2 mill cap space... and they would have to dump 1 player's salary for the roster spot. The terminology of the CBA is pretty extensive, but suffice it to say that there will be no cap issue for this season. Burke's challenge will be filling out his roster for next season. Burke's out on this one is simple: the terminology that applies to acquiring a player that puts you over the cap is very specific. HOWEVER.... Burke didn't acquire Neidermeyer: he was already under contract, albeit suspended. Which explains the re-signing of Getzlaf.
