As far as which iPod, since you said you have a ton of music, I would recommend the Classic, either the 80 GB or the 160 GB. If you plan on watching movies at all, suck it up and get the Touch, because the screen on the Classic is worthless for movies.

Our players probably get way more out of it than the kids that they touch.

I do as little as possible on windows besides click to go on the net or Pokerstars. I was fairly knowledgable about computers in my teen years(end of DOS begining of windows era) but for a couple of years I stayed away and came back clueless.

Apple has sold over 100 million iPods. I don't have one, but they should be simple to use. If you have any questions, they can help you in an Apple store or I'm sure that a lot of people here can help too.

If you don't know how to download songs illegally, that's a minute or two learning process, but it's really not hard.

I hate it.
Well, that's a little strong but the ipod fuss is a bit much imo. I do, however, hate iTunes. But I figured out how to use winamp to manage my ipod and I'm much happier now.
That said, much of my ipod frustration stems from a) my perfectionalism, and b) my understanding of how it could be better. My wife, who is not particularly computer saavy at all, LOVES her ipod, and had it set up and working flawlessly in minutes with no help from me.

This sounds interesting. I couldn't hate itunes any more unless it started crashing every time I opened it or something.

You mean your itunes doesn't?
Latest version of winamp (5.5) has built in ipod support, but it isn't as good as the third party plugin ml_ipod (just google it). Easy to use (pretty much as easy as itunes) but waaay faster and more stable, and more features too. The only thing that's missing is the itunes store.... shrug.
