Pocket 10s Against Tight Player

Late in a tornament situation: Whats the best way to play pocket 10s on the short stack when you're on small blinds and the guy on big blinds has a decent stack but is a tight player. Everyone behind you has folded. If you raise you risk losing a good hand with the guy folding and if you call you risk allowing the guy to see the flop and maybe hit top pair. I donno, are there any really savvy poker players out there who can help me with this one???

never call with tens, you aren't going to see a flop that excites you, and even if a dream flop for you (low cards, Txx), you aren't likely to get a ton of action from a tight player anyways.Tens are generally a horrible hand to slowplay, and in this instance your best bet is to actually raise what you would normally raise here (2.5-3x BB) and hope he's tired of getting pushed around. Any hand he will repop if you limp he will likely play back at your raise with, so you are just costing yourself either free blinds or the ability to build a pot when you are ahead.

Ok, so a raise is needed with pocket 10s,what about, same situation, except you're holding unsuited conectores like 9 10 . You raise and steal he's blinds? Or just lay it down

As far as 10s go, you gotta raise, if you run into a monster or a 50/50 scenario so be it, its an unavodiable part of tournament poker.with the 9To it'll depend on the BB and your image. Have you been constantly stealing his blind? He might be sick of it and push back, if you've not stepped out of line against him he will respect your raise and let you steal. Against a tight player there could be an argument for completing and if he raises you know he has something big and can escape, if he checks you get a cheap flop and potential to get some chips from him if you flop big.

With a short stack, you would push with 10 10 every time, and from any position (this does not necessarily apply if there are raises and re-raises in front of you). If it is folded to you in the sb against a tight bb, you should be pushing the majority of your hands anyway. Even if bb is not that tight, you should be pushing alot. It obviously depends on how short your stack is. If blinds are, say, 400/800 ante 25 and you have 3000, you should push pretty much any two cards. But if you have 8000 in the same situation, which is still a pretty short stack, you would want to tighten up a bit, particularly if bb had you covered, although imo, 109s would be a pretty easy push even here.

Depends a great deal on how short your stack is and how big his is. The more FE you have against him, the less likely he is to call your push w/ T9. If you have no FE, you may be better off throwing it away since you'll have several hands before the blinds hit you again (depending on how many players are at the table). That said, a hand like T9 may actually be a better hand to push when you're very short than a weak Ace because you're more likely to have 2 live cards if called.

Generally:TT - Shove.T9 - Shove. Edit: He would probably not be that tight with these stacksizes. I think this is a fold if you think he would call you with more than ~ top 15%. And he prob will.
