Was This The Right Move?

Recommended Posts

I was in the 180max $12 sit n go turbo on stars, this is how the hand went down. Blinds 500-1000, im in the bb with 5500 plus 1000 out there. its folded to middle pos. who limps, he has 13500 every one folds to me, i have k6 off, i check. Flop comes aak, i push, he auto calls with a4 of diamonds. The table was playing pretty tight, was this the wrong move to push here, what should i have done?thanks

Strat forum. If you are going to risk your tournament on a flop like that you should just be shoving preflop with your M of <4. When your M is that low, your goal is to be first in the hand with a shove, the cards don't matter. Since you were in the BB and got a free look, it just depends whether you feel like gambling. It's probably pretty close on whether you are ahead or behind here. People tend to limp here with weak aces or low pocket pairs. So for me,Best choice: shove preflop (he'd call, you'd lose, sign up for next tournament)2nd choice: check/fold, and hope for first in vig in the next couple hands3rd choice: shove on the flop, as you did2nd and 3rd are close, anything besides these three is terrible.

he is only gonna call u with a hand that has u beat. no value in betting that amount there
With a stack of 5500 (presumably 4500 after the blinds) and at leat $2500 in the pot (it's not clear whether there were antes, but probably), and hero getting the small blind the next hand, shoving is not a bad play here. It's not a value bet, it's betting that you can take it without a fight, which you will most of the time. It increases his stack by 50%, and flops miss any given hand more often then not. A paired flop is especially good here, because it means that's one less ace we don't know about = one less ace that good be in villain's hand.

Well if you're gonna go with that flop, isn't it better to CRAI or shove the turn if he checks behind?Checking at least gives him the chance to take a stab at the pot if he doesn't have anything.

I disagree. I think the worst choice is shoving preflop. He will call and you will be behind way too often.I do think you have to shove the flop. It's true that he is calling when you are beat, but you can't give him a free card to hit a set/straight. It's a turbo, so once that flop hits I don't think you should fold.

You do realize his M is less than 4? This is for almost half of villain's stack, so what hand is he limping with that he calls off half his stack with? The answer: in a donkfest, pretty much anything, including any two broadway, any pair, any ace. Against his range you are probably no worse than 55-45, not bad when you are desperate. If he's not a donkey, he wouldn't be open limping from there.

agreed. we can't expect a better hand to fold with a postflop shove, so it's a matter of deciding if 2p on a paired flop is go time or not.personally, i'd be more likely to shove preflop than i would be to decide a flop like this is worth going on (since the blinds are going to be so helpful to the hero's tiny stack), but i think that to only limpers, shoving postflop would be a relatively close second best unless people at this table are frequently limping ax, kx, and pairs only.

You really think villain calls off half his stack with A4s PF after limping? Maybe I'm a nit, but that's seems a bit loose. (Of course I would not have limped it either...I would have raised with it and took down the blinds.)
