Screw The Vikings

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3100835Read this article about Troy Williamson and the Minnesota Vikings it’s unreal. The guy was raised by his maternal grandmother and his brother has been in and out of a coma after a car accident. His grandmother died and he told the Vikings that he needed to organize the funeral and attend it. I’m not sure what was said when he told them that he needed to miss a game to attend the funeral, but when he got back the team fined him his pay check, which was close to $25,000.“Coach Brad Childress told Twin Cities-area media following Thursday’s practice that the decision was on a ‘business principle’ of the Vikings organization.”Screw the Vikings and their business principles. He’s a young kid in a crisis, who is averaging about a catch a game. You can argue that by missing the game he didn’t earn his money, but the hell with that. They should have had his back. NFL teams make millions and the Vikings won the game easily.I hope Troy becomes a huge star and leaves the team via free agency. The skin-flint Vikings and their business principles deserve it.

Robert Smith (former Buckeye and Viking) was on ESPN radio today saying he agreed with this because NFL players get paid to play the game. He admitted this sounded harsh, but was a business decision on the part of the Vikings. I thought this would be an interesting discussion, since both sides seem to have valid points.I agree though, that is was a bad decision.

http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpag...NFL&id=3131The Vikings will pay Troy Williamson his game check this week. This is a reversal from the team's original stance. "In the end, we wanted to get this thing right," Brad Childress said. "It’s more important to get it right than to be right." The Vikings had threatened to withhold Williamson's check because he missed last Sunday's game while attending his grandmother's funeral. It's still uncertain whether he'll be active in Week 10.

what does he have, 9 catches in 7 games? It wasn't worth the PR hit for $26k, but you only have to go 16 days a year, be ready to go. Besides, NFL teams don't need good PR, they have a flawless product

True. I mean if my team did this, I'd be pissed, but I would never stop watching.
