I just couldn't believe he would retire @ 34. I know he has done it all, Stanley Cups, World Championships, Olympic Gold Medal etc.. but as a hockey player myself I couldn't imagine just quitting when you are still at the top of your game. There must be more to this like some personal family matters.

I agree with you...and I dont think most players are in a position to walk away from $6 million a year..I dont care how rich they are...My theory is he just wanted to play a short season all along and him and Burke "conspired" to do it the way its gone down....

Makes sense considering he never really panicked to get another Dman. I know he got Schneider but that was a good move whether Niedermeyer was there or not.

And good news for the FCHL's Whalers franchise too! Souray, Schneider, SNiedermayer, Rafalski, Bouwmeester, Hamhuis, DMorris, Rivet, Klesla not a bad 9. The weakest part of my team is slowly coming around.
