Shula Wants Asterisk For Pats

Recommended Posts

We know they were good and the new Dolphins suck. Big deal (Though Ted Ginn is awesome).
You mean awesome as a person, not a football player, right?Because he's not all that awesome as a receiver. 9 games in, only 7 catches and 1 TD. Yup, real fucking awesome.Good job Dolphins. Way to waste a pick.

Don Shula is a classless douchebag. Popping chamapagen after the last undefeated team loses has to be the biggest douche tradition in sports. This is just sour grapes, shula needs to up the dose on his alzhiemer's meds and get his ass back to Shady Palms Retirement Home.

QFT, but I loathe the Pats, so I wouldn't (read: won't) be too upset if (read: when) they pop the champagne this year.

I am a Phins fan, but never liked them during the shula and marino days. I was an Elway guy. Anyway, diehard Phins now, and I hope the Pats put up 70 on us in week 16.

phins fan.....hate this speech by Shula. no matter how he says it ..... it is going to come off like sour grapes.when you have accomplished as much as Don Shula has it is really beneath him to even comment on this stuff.he should have just gone with no comment.

I hate Boston as a whole, and esp the Patriots, but there's no way there should be an asterisk

Not that it would be unsportsmanlike or anything.
Back in the 96 season there was a game where the Patriots beat the Chargers something like 45-7. They had the ball 4th and goal on the 2 with like 2 minutes left and they went for it. To the typical person who doesn't think anything through it may seem unsportsmanlike, but it is actually the best thing they could have done. They can't put a knee down because posession will automatically change with no time running off. Kicking a field goal and adding 3 points in more of an insult. Going for it allowed the Chargers try to stop them and get off the field with some pride left. And like Tom Brady said...if the Patriots were being shut out in the 4th quarter of a game, does he have the right to ask the defense to ease up a bit and let them score some?

Congratulations on completely missing the point.

Ok, I was listening to Mike & Mike yesterday when they had Shula on. Greeny pointed out that Shula never said, "there should be an asterisk if the Pats go undefeated". The reporter asked Shula, "Should there be an asterisk, if the Pats go undefeated?" Shula responded, "That's not for me to say." and went on to talk about how the Pats had already been fined and had a draft pick taken away. Does this mean the '72 Dolphins aren't arrogant? No, and I agree the champagne popping is ridiculous, but this thing got blown way out of proportion.

Odd...
I just thought that Marino was a whiney fag that always blamed everyone else for any incompleted pass. I also thought that he was one dimensional and not my style of gritty player. I loved watching Elway and the Broncos, the way he's scramble for 8 yards on 4th and 7, saving drives. Marino couldn't do that, therefore I thought he wasn't a complete player. In my mind, Elway was the epitome of a gunslinger and game changer, and I looked up to that. Marino was an excellent passing QB, the best ever, but I just never liked his antics on the field, or his perceived attitude. When he left and Elway retired, I started following the hometown team, in all their horribleness.I can think of 15 fantastic memories that Elway gave me, I can't think of one from Marino. Just a matter of taste I suppose.

Marino scrambled occasionally early on, but after the injury he suffered, he stuck to being a pocket passer. The things he could were amazing. He's without a doubt the greatest QB to never win a Super Bowl.
