Party Poker 0.5/1 Hold'em (8 handed) converterPreflop: akino1 is Button with K:spade:, K:heart:. 5 folds, BB calls.Flop: (4.50 SB) 9:heart:, 9:diamond:, 5:heart: (2 players)BB checks, akino1 bets, akino1 calls.Turn: (4.25 BB) J:spade: (2 players)BB bets, akino1 calls.River: (6.25 BB) 5:spade: (2 players)BB bets, akino1 calls.Final Pot: 8.25 BBi feel that this was either far too passive or far too stubborn. should i have three-bet the flop? or how about raised the turn? or should i have check-folded the turn? was going into check-call mode just terrible poker? (i think it was, but i'm wondering what the best alternative was.)aseem

I agree...three bet and check/call down. Unfortunately for you, he's in the BB and only had to call one bet to see the flop, so any old A-9, K-9, 98, T9, are likely. Worse, the 5 on the river doubles the number of hands he could have that have you beat.

my first thought is that he has a 5 and thinks he has your overcards beat. Which he does on the river. This is a really small pot, and while you have a big hand, I don't think it's worth it to get too involved in this pot. There is a good case for 3-betting the flop though, as you're either way ahead and way behind and this would give you more info.

that flop is just begging to be threebet. do it and you won't regret it

Why not play it the same, and then raise the river? It's just a suggestion. My standard line would to be to either a) 3-bet the flop or B) raise the turn after calling the flop.

Yea, generally I call the flop and raise the turn. If he 3-bets me, it depends on the player but most of the time I cap, and call a river bet or bet the river if checked to me. I might be a little too aggressive though.

that is too aggressive. If he 3-bets the turn I call down.
