This does not necessarily mean it has to be the top film makers of all time by critics standards, just your favorite directors. Here are mine.1.) Martin Scorsese-With films like Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, The Color of Money, Casino, and more recently The Gangs of New York, and The Departed, Scorsese is by far my favorite director of all time. I literally have liked almost every film he has ever made, and will probably love almost any film he makes in the future. I know before I even go to the theatre that I am going to get all the bang for my buck I can hope for, and leave the theatre with a sense of satisfaction.2.) Francis Ford Coppola-The Godfather trilogy, need I say more? Yes he has made some shit films like Jack and Peggy Sue got married, but The Godfather Trilogy, Apocolypse Now, The Rainmaker, and The Conversation have shown that this guy knows what he is doing when he is on top of his game.3.) Steven Spielberg-I'm not going to get into it too much, but Jaws and E.T. pretty much show you that his name is synonymous with big-time movies.4.) Quentin Tarantino-You gotta love Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, and the vastly underrated Jackie Brown. He hasn't made as many movies as these other guys, but there is something about his movies I just love, and I hope he makes many more.5.) David Fincher-Seven, The Game, Fight Club. Enough said. The Game and Panic Room arent bad either. Coppola is a little to high on your list for my liking. I saw the movie about Robert Evans and he was saying how Coppola wanted to go in a very artsy direction for the original Godfather and they had to whip him into shape. Granted, his 3 tricks are 3 of the best 10 movies of all time, so it's hard not to put him in the top five. But the rest of his work is.. well.. meh. He's top 10 on my list, but not top five. I like fincher, but I need to see more. I love Tarentino. He's in my top five of the sheer effect Res. Dogs and Pulp fiction had on me, on the way I viewed movies, on the expectations I have of them. Probably overrated to be in my top five, but so what.Capra and wilder are great, but I can't get fired up for Mr Smith goes to washington or Sunset Boul. like I do for say, Pulp fiction or Dr. Strangelove. They are great movies, but I appreciate them more than I love them. I think Spielberg is underrated by serious movie lovers. Don't blame him because the genre he basically created ( IE Big Budget Blockbusters) sucks balls. Only spielberg could have made something like the first 45 minutes of saving private ryan (which I think is the most powerful thing ever put on film) Link to post Share on other sites

Just sayin'.I guess that since this is a "favorite" not "best" nor even "most influential" I can see your points. Capra/Wilder would certainly have to be credited with having influenced "Film as we know it" including influencing guys like Hitchcock and Tarantino.Having said that I will say that my "5 Favorites" are Scorcese, Hitchcock, Tarantino, Coens, Kubrick Link to post Share on other sites
