That's right.
As of 2 weeks ago, I'm officially ordained in the Universal Life Church.

"What is the Universal Life Church," you ask?
Why, it's a Church where anyone can be ordained as a lawful and bona fide minister, simply by asking!

"But, but, but, no one could POSSIBLY take such an ordination seriously," you say! "Why, if all that's required is requesting ordination via the internet, how can that possibly be valid?"

Thank the Federal laws of the USA and the laws of most states, because brother, it is.
Yes, Virginia, you too can perform marriages and officiate at funerals in more states than not by simply requesting your TOTALLY FREE ordination via the Universal Life Church.

"FREE? BUT, NOTHING'S FREE!"

Seriously- it is. Become a minister here.

http://www.ulc.net/index.php?page=ordain

They make their money selling little credential cards, "ministry packages" and certificates that you can choose to buy or not, but for legal purposes, you're recorded in their books as a minister and can act as such, in full good faith in the lions share of US states.

I'll save you the time:

I am not very religious and my wife and I had my friend who is somewhat religious perform our wedding ceremony since we did not have a minister or preacher to use and we wanted something personal. He went onto their site and felt uncomfortable so he decided against going that route, and instead became deputized for the day. He felt becoming ordained in that fashion was sacrelgious to his beliefs.

I don't think it seems sacreligeous as long as you are doing it for the right reasons, but yeah it does seem shady nonetheless.

I stand firmly in opposition to organized religion. Seems I must now come to some sort of conclusion on disorganized religion.
Hank's tenure at Soulsuckers, INC, LLC, DBA TBD, had not been long, but it had been distinguished... By drunkenness, hair-trigger violence, and a total lack of performance. I would call it a steady decline in performance, but that would imply that he performed at one point in time. In fact he had not. He was drunk.

sacrelegious was probably too strong of word, but I cannot think of another that could describe what he said to me in length as to why he chose the other, I am actually glad he went the other route, seems more authentic and he put enough scripture in the ceremony to satisfy my wife and especially my mother in law.

That's 10x's cooler than being ordained for life. Did he get to carry a bullet?

Yeah, it really is strange, and I'm guessing the vast majority of people don't know the correct spelling.

To be honest, I had to look it up too just to double check.

God bless dictionary.com.
