I am continually running into the same problem(playing the 1/2 limit tables on party poker ), I get dealt a hand like AK, AQ,AJ,KQ, ect. And I don’t hit the flop, but I bet and get one or two callers, I don’t hit the turn, but I bet and get a caller or two, and I don’t hit the river either, but the board is all ragged, and I bet anyways and they fold.Obviously that isn’t a problem, if everyone called you all the way down when you had nothing and then folded on the river, that’d be awesome, but my problem is I do get callers here and there, so am I making the right move? I’m a winning player(I log mostly winning sessions), and my bankroll continues to grow, but my roommate who taught me how to play and has been playing a lot longer then me says its okay to make a move at the flop if you think it didn’t hit any one, but if you get a caller shut down. I can’t figure out what to do, because there has been so many times when I didn’t hit a flop, bet all the way down and someone called me and then folded on the river. What is the correct thing to do if you bet a flop and it misses and you get a caller and the turn doesn’t improve your hand?
when to shut down when you are the leading aggressor

Theres no black and white answer to it. Depending on flop texture I'll probobly bet out w/ AK everytime (Unless its like 7-8-9 Diamonds and I've got Clubs...) Infact nevermind I might even bet that.It all depends on how many people are in the pot behind you, what type of players they are, and what types of draws you have. AK from EP missing a flop is purely situational.

Betting on the river seems a bit pointless. If he hit a piece of it, he'll call you down. If he missed a draw, then you have him beat anyways.

It's not the draws I'm worried about, it's the people that call all the way down with mid pair, they have me beat. People on the 1/2 table call all the way down with mid pair all the time, and even bottem pair hoping to drill their trips or pair their kicker, but when they don't hit it they tend to fold because they figure you for top pair. It's the people that call anyways thinking they are beat that piss me off

This is a very braud question. Anyone giving a definate answer is wrong in too many cases.Post some examples and we will tell you why its correct to keep betting or why it's correct to stop.

So basically there are too many factors that contribute when to bet and when to shut down.I was hoping there was a definite answer because that would make it easy, but poker ain't easy or every one would be a winner.
So I'll just have to decide myself based on the texture of the board and the read on my oppenent.
