Has anyone else ever suffered a long, long streak of not getting playable hands in a particular game or setting? Online doesn't count by the way because I really don't want to start that "They're cheating" thread. In the past 6 LIVE trny's I've entered (Over about 3 months) I have had 5 or 6 playable hands for the whole trny. Saturday nite I played and had exactly 5 playable hands. I won two and lasted to the final 4 tables and busted out when my pocket 9's ran into quad queens. When I leave the trny I can go triple my buy-in in a cash game in the first 2 hours. I know I am playing correctly in the trny's I'm just really not getting anything. For example, UTG I get pocket 9's and come in for 4x the BB. That gets raised and then reraised to 3/4 of my stack. We were in the second round so I don't think it was worth a call. My next 25 hands were J-x os, 8-4, K-3os, 9-6s, T-2 and so on. I mean I have sat at cash tables and played on line and don't often go 50 hands without being able to play a hand but the past 6 trny's I've been in that's what has happened. So, has anyone else felt the poker Gods were tourmenting you in one particular area of your game? Only at X casino? Only large buy-in trny's? If you've had this happen what happened when it broke? Did you get a rush of great cards and become unbeatable? Did you have to sacrafice a virgin to the Gods to get it to break? Your first born? I'm just frustrated. I love trny's and I know I can make the final table with some cards. Maybe the Gods are teaching me disipline and once I learn they'll let me have a hand. This isn't a gripe so much as a here's whats happening to me and who else has suffered it and how did it fix. I really need some feedback from experienenced players so I may have some hope. I'm begining to feel unlucky and THAT is a very bad thing. Thanks. :club:

The worst streak I have had yet was somewhere around 200-300 hands. It wasn't pure cold (which would have been fine). I was dry of premium hands, but was being drawn into the pot with marginal hands. I could fold 300 unplayable hands in a row and laugh about it, but when you get QTo and pseudo-crap like that you can bleed away a lot of chips limping. I looked over my hand history for that run. I started tilting half way through...playing late position hands from middle and early. Raising hands worth only limping. It was ugly. My flop rate was aroun 20%, and I think I won 2 or 3 hands in total. This was online. Online is not rigged. Online counts. :)I switched sites, and lowered my stakes (went from Party .5/1 to Pokerstars .05/.10). Re built my confidence and got things going again.

everyone has suffered a long streak of not getting any good hands in a tournamant...you compare a ring game w/a tournament and they are 2 completely diff things as far as strategy is concerned..you need to make some final tables w/out the cards..in a ring game you can sit back and play very tight and do ok but thats not the case in a tournament bec the blinds are constantly moving up and so are the avergage chip counts due to players being eliminated...in short you have to pick a spot and try and steal some blinds or hit a favorable flop...sometimes you should rasie w/a 9-7s in late position

Hey all, first time posting. I sometimes run into the same situation Sindri, but then looking back, I realize the times I don't make it very deep into a tournament it is generally due to overplaying marginal hands early on. I could be wrong, but I consider raising 4x the BB UTG with pocket nines early on in a tournament as overplaying a marginal hand, since you generally will have to lay the hand down in the face of someone going over the top of you. By making just a couple of plays like this early on, you leave yourself in bad shape when you finally pick up a premium hand. To give you two examples, I played a live tournament Friday night and overplayed pocket 8's during the first round of blinds, and ended up being knocked out of the tournament within an hour.Yesterday, however, I did my first mtt on Pokerstars, and placed 45th out of 1550, and folded around the first 30 hands I was dealt. Nothing fantastic, but not too shabby. My stats for the tournament were: During current Hold'em session you were dealt 231 hands and saw flop: - 12 out of 28 times while in big blind (42%) - 6 out of 24 times while in small blind (25%) - 12 out of 179 times in other positions (6%) - a total of 30 out of 231 (12%) Pots won at showdown - 8 of 11 (72%) Pots won without showdown - 11I probably would have placed higher, but lost half my stack on a bad beat and then got knocked out when I made a move with AQ suited. I know a lot of people in this forum don't like Phil Hellmuth, but I agree with his philosophy of playing tight early on and let the chips eventually come to you.

I was folding almost all of my hands so when I came in UTG for 4x the BB pocket 9's isn't a bad hand to go with. The few times I bluffed were from UTG otherwise I wouldn't have lasted as long as I did. 99 is certainly better that the 4-6 os I came in with 2 rounds later. That was the reason for the post. I can play some crappy hands and keep myself alive in the trny but you eventally get caught. I make moves to stay alive and figure, OK the decent hands are coming soon. It then gets to the point where the blinds are really starting to hurt and you make a move, a good player realizes you haven't shown down a hand and BAM you're done. And the good cards never came.I would be fine if it wasn't every damn tournament. In cash games I get what would appear to be an even distribution of cards. If I got the same cards in the cash game I play right after the trny, in the trny, I have no doubt I'd be at the final table. While I do play differnt in the cash game J-2os isn't better in a cash game and I still couldn't play it.I guess someday I'll get a run. Maybe at the WSOP. It'd be a good time for it!
